Thermo Fisher Scientific Scientist II, Cell Biology in Frederick, Maryland
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to join the Cell Biology for Scientist II position focused on supporting the commercialization of products in the area of hepatic 2D/3D and organotypic cell culture. Key areas of research for this position will include the development of more advanced cell culture technologies within the hepatic space with a focus on the generation of 3D spheroids, organoids, and micro-tissues.
Specific duties of this position will include supporting major R&D project(s) and leading smaller sub-projects, designing and executing experiments while working in cross-functional product commercialization teams. Other responsibilities will include troubleshooting experiments and presenting data to project teams and R&D management. Identifying and solving complex problems associated with key experimental and project goals, and contributing ideas to improve on existing protocols, processes and approaches. Comply with all company safety regulations and procedures.
A successful candidate will have the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and learn quickly. Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are essential.
Experience in primary hepatocytes culture is required
Experience in the isolation of primary hepatic and other cell types from human and animal tissue highly desirable.
Experience with 2D and 3D organotypic static or dynamic flow cultures is desirable.
Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced team environment
Effective communication/interpersonal skills
Able to design, execute, and analyze experiments with some level of supervision
Maintain and document laboratory protocols and notebooks
Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
BS with a minimum of 3 years of research experience or MS in Biological Engineering, Molecular and/or Cell Biology, or other related fields.
Minimum 2 years work experience in vitro cell culture techniques
Experience in stem cell culture and analysis
Willingness to work in research involving live animal surgeries and human tissue
Ability to perform the following molecular biology techniques: DNA, RNA, and protein isolation; qRT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, etc.
Fluorescent and confocal microscopy experience – highly valuable
