CRS Description

C loud R eliability S ervices (CRS) is a strategic component that will transform Oracle’s Global Business Unit’s (GBU) cloud operations. As cloud service operations evolve from a predominately re-active model (i.e., responding to emergencies with high levels of human involvement) to a pro-active model (i.e., preventing emergencies and outages with intelligent tools, services, and automation), the mission of CRS will ensure that all GBUs can efficiently operate ultra-scalable and highly-reliable SaaS/Foundation services, across multiple operating models as they iterate to become Cloud Native.

Monitoring & Observability Team description

The C loud R eliability S ervices (CRS) - Service M onitoring & O bservability (M&O) team provides an integrated suite of tools to allow partners to monitor core Business KPIs as well as user experience and Service SLA reporting. Besides, the service allows for the monitoring of Compute, Dependencies, and Network Infrastructure. The service provides greater visibility into core components while also overlaying Customer Experience to better focus engineering resources when incidents occur as well as prevent occurrence. The M&O team is a fast-paced, highly motivated team that embodies “We” rather than “I”. CRS – M&O will be a geo-diverse team that will allow it to quickly respond to customer engagements and challenges, and adapt quickly to incoming incidents while still delivering on committed features and enhancements.

Roles & Responsibilities

Oracle Cloud Reliability Services is seeking a strong and experienced Product Owner (PO) to collaborate with talented software engineers and development resources within the team. The PO will collaborate and lead development teams to deliver solutions to the specifications of our discerning partners for whom we are designing, developing, and running core services to enable their Cloud Solutions and allow them to deliver best in class service to Oracle Customers. The Monitoring and Observability PO will develop the solution’s technical and conceptual design and communicate the blueprint to the product development teams. Obtaining value is key to the success of the role and the PO will, therefore, be responsible for maximizing the value of delivered products or features by continually brainstorming, collaborating with internal teams and partners, and ensuring the partner requirements and goals are prioritized at all times.

The PO for Monitoring and Observability is both a technology and service expert. They will be responsible for setting, prioritizing, and evaluating the work generated by Cloud Reliability Services development teams to ensure that the outcomes meet the high standards of the user and business communities who will avail of the solutions. The role will be required to set ambitious but realistic goals, recognizing the development team’s capabilities, extracting the very best from the team on behalf of our partners.

The successful candidate for this role has an expert level of knowledge in the monitoring and observability space as well as Oracle technologies and services. Additionally, the candidate will have a ‘customer first’ mindset prioritizing, above all else, the delivery of value users of the services and solutions.

Example Duties of a Product Owner

  • Observe Market and Partner Requirements – As subject matter expert for Monitoring and Observability, the PO will keep apprised of new trends within the partner base and wider industry.

  • Provide the Vision – Ensure stakeholders across the board (Development Teams, Customers, Business Managers) understand the vision and value of the products and it is in line with business objectives. Set ambitious goals for the delivery of the product and help keep the team dedicated to delivering the value outcomes. Participate and conduct sprint preparation meetings and daily standup calls.

  • Manage Product Backlog – The PO will tackle any partner roadblocks and develop solutions through the creation and maintenance of the product backlog, shared with the development teams. Should any questions arise, the PO is responsible to clarify any details and reimagine the roadmap as needed to make progress.

  • Prioritizing needs – Actively manage the triangle of scope, budget, and time, weighing priorities according to the needs and objectives of stakeholders.

  • Acting as primary liaison and anticipate client needs – The PO makes sure there is buy-in from stakeholders on all major decisions and strategy and clear instructions and deliverables for the developers. Understand and anticipate the client’s needs to more effectively manage the development process.

  • Evaluating product progress at each iteration – The PO takes a primary role in inspecting and evaluating product progress through each iteration. The product owner makes the judgment call on the performance, deciding if the team needs to go back to the drawing board or if they can move on to the next steps.

Preferred Qualifications

An ideal candidate will have expertise with:

  • 5 years of experience in Agile methodology and Scrum framework is expected

  • Product Owner certification is an advantage

  • 3 years in the PO role for Monitoring and/or Observability services with Prometheus and Grafana tech stack is a huge advantage

  • Well-founded knowledge of Cloud Native principals and Infrastructure as a Code is expected

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must

  • Atlassian Jira and Confluence experience is expected

  • Experience in ITIL V3 or V4, Foundation Level certified is preferred

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Lead a team that acts as the central resource and driving force for the design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing of product(s) as they move from conception to distribution. Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.

As a member of the product development division, you will analyze and integrate external customer specifications. Suggest and justify product directions and specifications. Specify, design and implement moderate changes to existing software architecture. Build new products and development tools. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to discuss major changes to functionality.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
