Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly motivated Project Manager for immediate employment in the Gaithersburg, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for leading a construction management team to deliver a new physics (nuclear) laboratory as a capital construction project

  • Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering a group of projects or one major project from conceptual stages through all phases of the projects, with the assistance of the project team

  • Responsible for overall performance of the project team and takes the lead in reporting and ensuring project completion within budget, schedule and in conformance with specifications

  • Reviews contracts, scope documents, and available data for the project, and establishes schedules and budgets for compliance with project scope requirements and contract obligations

  • Takes leadership initiative in working with internal team members, and client departments including cost/scheduling, procurement, quality assurance, construction, contracts, legal, labor relations, finance, accounting and other services and departments as required to successfully manage projects

  • Provides an integrated project team approach in working with designers, contractors and governing agencies

  • Reviews and comments on design submissions, change orders, and contracts/sub-contracts, and represent the client interests to ensure control of and validate change orders are current, fair and efficiently processed

  • Reviews comments received from governing agencies on behalf of the client and coordinates timely resolutions

  • Responsible to proactively monitor critical project milestone dependencies, and track actions which may result in risks to critical project milestones

  • Reviews project key performance indicators and forecasts any modifications to schedules, cost estimates, and financial reports, and effectively reconciles risks to commitments that may exceed assigned schedules and budgets

  • Coordinates communications, stakeholder contacts and maintains good working relationships

  • Monitors and controls contractual commitments to assure work being performed is in accordance with the specifications and terms of the contracts

  • Reviews builder submittals and RFI documents, and provides field surveillance to ensure specified quality of design

  • Conducts project coordination and client meetings as necessary to review progress and discuss upcoming work

  • Works with stakeholders to negotiate and resolve conflicts, disputes, and potential claims on behalf of the client

  • This position is contingent upon award of contract

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering or Physics

  • 10+ years of progressive construction project management experience that includes knowledge of all project phases: planning, design, preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations

  • SC 40-Hour Radiation Worker II Waste Certification

  • Experience in environmental health physics, radiation safety, radioactive waste management and disposal, and nuclear power industry initiatives

  • Relevant licenses/certifications and Navy radiation/nuclear reactor experience

  • Experience in managing projects ranging in value from $100M and up

  • Knowledge of clinical, pharmaceutical or laboratory operations

  • Relevant Experience using EPA’s Risk Assessment Methodology for Radioactive Contaminants

  • Relevant experience leading contacts, managing people, budgets, schedules, overseeing subcontractor performance, and working with stakeholders and governing agencies on behalf of a public-works owner

  • Knowledge of clinical, pharmaceutical or laboratory operations

  • Strong and effective communications skills

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering or Physics

  • 15+ years of progressive construction project management experience that includes knowledge of all project phases: planning, design, preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and turnover to operations

  • Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture professional certifications and/or license
