The Process Engineer provides technical support and leadership to Ethylene Oxide Ethylene Glycol units, in the E-Dept operations module.
The following are the primary accountabilities for the Process Engineer:
Provide technical oversight of the site’s Ethylene Oxide/Ethlyene Glycol process operations.
Proactive technical monitoring
Participate in HSSE-MS activities (PHA, Corrosion control reviews, Investigations, etc.)
Perform technical assurance of changes (MOC’s)
Support and implement Safe Operating Limits
Lead Process Safety improvement initiatives
Provide support for successful implementation of unit outages
Participate in audits as needed to maintain compliance with state & federal requirements, as well as local and corporate standards
Respond to urgent and critical operational related items at the request of the Operations Staff
This position must be available to provide some level of support 24/7 via phone call or other technology, and off hours callouts are sometimes required
Provide technical support of operations activities with technical, maintenance, and HSE departments (first technical point of contact for run and maintain issues)
Ensure complete documentation of key technical work
Provide support to Operations as needed in meeting the production department annual targets in the following areas: HSE, Reliability, Quality Assurance, and Unit Optimization including Fixed and Variable Costs.
Work to close assigned action items from HSE-MS activities (PHA, etc.).
Serve as a unit representative on site-wide teams as required
Act as change leader on projects. This includes leading the project during scouting to concept stages while providing technical support for the duration of the project
Provide technical support and guidance to the Unit Master Plan efforts and the Geismar Expansion Organization.
This position interfaces with stakeholders at all levels of the Geismar Chemical Plant.
Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple interfaces with varying needs and priorities are critical to success in this position.
Understand impact of decisions on production, operability, safety, reliability and economics.
This role reports to the E-Dept Process Engineering Supervisor within the Technology Department at the Geismar Chemical Plant.
Geismar Chemical is the only stand-alone Chemical Plant in the USA, and accounts for nearly half of Chemicals business results. Geismar has a long-term growth strategy, including DS’s newest unit, AO4, and future growth projects. We leverage Shell proprietary technology to produce Ethylene Oxide, Ethylene Glycol, Alpha Olefins, Alcohols, Ethoxylates.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required; Chemical Engineering is preferred.
Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in refining/petrochemical industry. Technical experience in Ethylene Oxide/Ethlyene Glycol process technologies, and process engineering experience providing direct support to manufacturing operations desired.
Knowledge and application of safety methodology and reviews (Process Hazards Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis, etc.), including safeguarding.
Experience with plant changes and Management of Change process.
The individual must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets, computer and simulation models.
Preferred Technology Competencies:
Must have a TWIC card or ability to get one.
