We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Training Specialist with our Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Geismar, Louisiana.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and or transport our products, as our highest priority.

  • Provide attention to detail, and dedication to work in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as high quality product.

  • Ensure that you and others are respected, supported and encouraged to grow and succeed in their job.

  • Assure compliance to Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (MOC’s, PSSR’s, Procedures, Audits, etc.).

  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Coordinators (SMC) to ensure consistency in the application of PSM principles to Unit Process Descriptions, Operating Procedures, Startup/Shutdown Checklists, Training Manuals and materials, unit PSM technical analysis documentation, among others.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with SMCs to develop consistency across units in unit training materials including but not limited to Unit Checklists, Binders, Tests, Problems of the Month, etc.

  • Incorporate input from production technicians, unit and site supervisors, engineers and managers, etc. in the development of training materials, equipment preparation procedures, and programs.

  • Collaborate with maintenance leaders, engineers, and technicians to create and enhance maintenance training, such as orientation training, the PDE process, and other pertinent maintenance training.

  • Identify outside-of-plant resources to deliver training to the various in-plant groups (engineers, supervisors, maintenance employees), such as vendor training, training opportunities from other Oxy plants, professional training groups, among others.

  • Collaborate with Engineering to revise procedures and develop training materials resulting from approved Process Changes Requests.

  • Complete reporting requirements of the Process Change Request (PCR) process to meet the requirements of the site PCR procedures. Complete periodic audits of unit PCR processes to ensure compliance with procedures.

  • Ensure newly-learned practices from major incidents are included in training materials where appropriate.

  • Assist in the development of training materials and programs for new equipment and/or process changes.

  • Collaborate with the Technical and Production Departments to develop on-boarding training for engineers and supervisors.

  • Coordinate the delivery of technical training for engineers and supervisors to provide on-going professional growth.

  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to develop on-boarding training for maintenance technicians.

  • Collaborate with corporate training resources as requested.

  • Participate as a member of the Training Steering Team.

  • Assist in ISO audits, Safety Audits, PSM audits, and Environmental Audits.

  • Participate in Process Hazard Reviews as requested.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Five (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in chemicals.

  • Ability to effectively function and excel in a team environment as well as work independently with minimum supervision.

  • High safety and environmental awareness.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications.

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with all levels of a plant organization.

  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.


  • Experience developing or enhancing training programs for a variety of functions and crafts.
