_Unit Description_* * The Medical/Surgical Department is family centered and has a small-town feel. It is a 36-bed unit. The patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients including general medical, general surgical (appendectomy, cholectomy, colon resections, hernia repairs), orthopedics, oncology, end-of-life care, urology, and pediatrics. Diagnoses include status post abdominal, orthopedic, thyroid and gynecological surgeries.
___Position Summary_ The Charge Nurse coordinates the care of patients through assignments and collaboration with all departments. Serves as a professional role-model. Interfaces directly with patients, families, physicians and staff. The Charge Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients with a broad range of illnesses. The Charge Nurse is involved in direct and indirect patient care. The Charge Nurse provides direction to Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses and other non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Charge Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the objectives of the hospital. IN collaboration with other health team members, follows the philosophy, policies and goals of the facility and department.
_Education & Experience_ Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.Minimum of one (1) year as clinicalstaff nurse Preferred: Previous Charge Nurse Experience _Licenses & Certifications_ Required: * *Current Texas RN license. Current certification for BCLS Healthcare Provider. Preferred: Current certification for ACLS Healthcare Provider.
