The global Trading & Supply Products business generates sustained value in the oil products market for Shell, through maximizing trading value around Shell’s global asset base, and through the effective delivery and management of the supply of oil products and biofuels to Shell marketing businesses and 3rd parties.

What’s the role?

The Global Biodiesel Trading Book is embedded within Shell’s Global Middle Distillates trading business and sits within T&S Products. It is responsible for buying, selling, and actively trading biodiesel, renewable diesel, biofuels derivatives, and related emission reduction credits on behalf of RDS. Having been an early mover in trading biofuels on a global scale it has become an instrumental part of Shell’s Product Trading strategy and is key in ensuring that the Shell Group is able to meet its biofuels related obligations throughout its global Downstream businesses and the CO2 emission reduction targets in transport.

Within this context, the role will primarily focus on originating feedstock streams and developing supply chains for Shell’s bio feedstock trading business while feeding the needs of the biofuel production assets.

More specific duties will include:

  • Develop a short- and long-term global feedstock sourcing strategy closely linked to Shell’s asset and marketing footprint

  • Identify and develop a global pipeline of bio feedstock sourcing opportunities in line with the business strategic intent and growth ambitions

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with feedstock suppliers on a global basis

  • Work closely with production assets to identify current and future feedstock requirements as well as feedstock optimization opportunities

  • Become an integral part of Shell’s biofuels trading business by identifying feedstock value drivers and incorporating those in the overall trading strategy

  • Build the feedstocks supply chain and develop pre-treatment options to enable the physical delivery and constantly review and propose new ideas to further extract cash out of the existing value chain.

  • Support the development and execution of Investment Proposals (IP) in the feedstock and biofuel production space and provide business support during the post-IP execution phase.

  • Support the delivery of business development opportunities to source finished grade biofuels.

The role offers the unique opportunity to build and shape Shell’s bio feedstock trading platform which has been identified as a key strategic growth area and integrate it into Shell’s overall biofuels trading business.

This position gives you the opportunity to interact with Regional and Global Trading Managers, Biodiesel and Ethanol Traders, Production Managers, Trading Analysts and Oil Market Economists, New Energies and Downstream businesses. You will be based in Rotterdam and report to the Global Biodiesel Trading Manager.

What we need from you

  • Extensive and proven track record in waste and bio feedstock sourcing and trading (key requirement)

  • Exceptional knowledge of waste bio feedstock markets particularly UCO, tallow, and waste fatty acids

  • Understanding of product quality constraints within production assets and pre-treatment options for waste and veg oil feedstocks

  • Experience in freight economics, storage logistics, and feedstock supply chains is required

  • Broad and robust knowledge of the global regulatory environment for feedstocks and biofuels

  • Strong background in commercial contract negotiations

  • Deep understanding of pricing mechanisms, exposure, and profit drivers of the underlying markets

  • Strong commercial acumen and delivery focus with deep interest in the trading business and biofuels

  • Highly motivated with self-starter mentality, strong team player

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
