A Day in the Life of a Research and Test Intern

As an intern working within the Research and Test team, you will assist senior projects, conduct metallurgical and mechanical testing to determine properties of materials, use a variety of equipment for electrical, vibration and dimensional checks, perform stress tests and analysis, polish samples for microscopic evaluation, and performs computerized data analysis. You will also be given an opportunity to participate in field work.

What Makes a Successful Intern?

  • Knowledge and operational skills in AutoCAD combined with literacy of some computer software applications

  • Knowledge of Windows, Access, Excel, and Word is preferred

  • Willing to study reference material to resolve problems

  • Ability to make suggestions for improvements and to design projects

Education/Experience

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree

  • Preferred Degree Paths: Metallurgy or Materials Science with an emphasis on metals

  • At least a 2.7 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in major

Compensation

  • Freshman (27 or fewer credits) - $2,500/month

  • Sophomore (28 to 59 credits) - $2,800/month

  • Junior (60 to 89 credits) - $3,000 /month

  • Senior (90 or more credits) - $3,300/month

  • Graduate Student - $3,666/month

*Living stipend of $850/month is available to those who qualify.
