The planning and appraisal team supports this transformation within one of Shell’s four lines of business, Global functions. Home to corporate functions like HR IT & Finance IT, the team ensures that our leaders have timely, accurate information at their fingertips. Our team have a diverse set of activities, from many short-term queries as well as working on longer term assignments across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries to drive results.

What’s the role?

As a Planning analyst you will be responsible for ensuring performance against the plan is continually tracked and reported, by providing insightful, predictive analysis. You will also track the health and Net present value (NPV) of ongoing Investments to ensure no value leakage, in addition to ensuring that all business critical KPI’s are tracked and monitored.

The work activities performed are diverse, varying from analytical skills to interpret data for executive reporting purposes, to being innovative and detail-oriented when problem solving, to professionally communicating and presenting tasks performed as part of one-off pieces of work, or a regular activity. For many of these activities, sole responsibility for work must taken by you.

More specific responsibilities will include:

  • Drive integration across IT Engineering, Business IT and Strategy & Portfolio to ensure best in class performance and constructive collaboration;

  • Continue to support our Power BI capability and look for opportunities to unlock more advanced analytical capabilities;

  • Deliver, through the natural team, a value adding operating plan that is strategically aligned and quarterly Latest Estimates through the Quarterly Rolling Forecast (QRF) process;

  • Work closely with finance, IT, Strategy & Portfolio managers and IT Advisors to ensure high quality information is available to support planning and appraisal processes and prepare insightful information using advanced analytics to facilitate decision making;

  • Spearhead improvement initiatives from the Planning Team across the organization with a strong focus on continuous improvement;

  • Ensure KPI data and analysis are available when required;

  • Coordinate the data acquisition and analysis of benchmarks and dashboards;

  • Analyzing internal (e.g. portfolio comparisons) and external (e.g. Full Spend Benchmark) data and benchmarks.

What we need from you

We’re keen to hear from you if you have a consulting background, preferably with experience in a Finance and IT environment. Next to your bachelor’s or master’s degree, we hope to see as many of the following on your CV.

  • Strong business analysis skills;

  • Numerically literate

  • Good knowledge of and experience with Power BI (or similar tools), PowerPoint and Excel;

  • A virtual team worker with the ability to work across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries to drive results;

  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills: proven skills and experience in delivering by influence through others; and capable of identifying and interacting with different (senior) stakeholders;

  • The ability to prioritise many activities and deal with multiple, sometimes demanding, stakeholders simultaneously is important.
