Eaton Corporation Specialist Engineer Power Distribution Systems in Golden, Colorado
The Distribution Automation Protection & Control Engineer is a member of the Corporate Research & Technology, Power Systems Technologies, Integrated Energy Solution department, reporting to the Global Technology Leader.
Eaton’s Corporate Research and Technology (CRT) is a global research business and has an exciting and rewarding position for a Power System Engineer seeking a challenging career in Power System and Energy industry. Eaton employs about 10,000 engineers in various disciplines and the Corporate Research and Technology engineers initiate and lead innovation programs supporting this large team of engineers. This position enables the person hired to develop new technologies, improve existing products, acquire internal and external funding, lead discussions with national labs and customer technology leaders, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and CRT leadership. A good blend of technical knowledge and strong lab skills is desired to be successful in this role. The selected candidate will be working with engineering teams located in both Golden, Colorado and globally.
Create innovative distribution automation, protection & control concepts/prototypes and solutions based on breakthrough technologies, as a technical leader and as a team member.
Lead and contribute to technology development projects and work with teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (Business Divisions, Universities, National Laboratories, and Utility Customers).
Lead and support advancing state of the art protection & control system architectures for power distribution systems, as well as identifying and developing commercialization opportunities with substantial growth potentials for diverse Eaton businesses.
Lead and support simulation and modeling work, provide software implementation, and support throughout prototype development and testing phases.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams.
Master’s degree in power distribution from an accredited university
Minimum of 7 years of highly relevant industry experience
Minimum of 7 years of experience in power distribution systems
Preferred Qualifications (not required to be qualified for position)
PhD degree in related field from an accredited institution
Experience with feeder automation applications (FLISR, OPF, VVC, etc.)
Familiar with distribution protective devices (fuses, line re-closers, distributed generation protection, relay controlled automated switching equipment, network protector, etc.) and experience in conducting protection coordination studies
Experience with distribution communication protocols such as ModBus, DNP3, IEC61850, etc.
Experience in project based development (including lean software development) and work in matrixed organization.
Simulation with CYMDIST, openDSS, Simulink
Experience with cyber-security
Experience with low technology readiness level (TRL 3-6) projects.
Experience with system integration and power distribution systems’ modeling, design, analysis and protection
Experience with hardware-in the loop simulation systems.
Proven track record in taking technologies from concepts to validated product applications.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
Business acumen with proven record of formulating value proposition and creating intellectual property.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
Strong technical publication and/or invention record.
