About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the West Penn Power Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [WPP]

The reporting location will be at a West Penn Power service center located in the southwest Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities at the Distribution Tech l level include:

Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

Assist with diverse transmission and distribution projects, including easement profiles, to ensure projects are prioritized appropriately and that project deliverables are achieved safely within the approved scope, cost and schedule.

Assist with the preparation and updates to individual project budgets, capital expenditure authorization and associated project budget revisions by working with Project Management Specialist/Project Coordinator.

Assist with the review of project and contract budgets for adequacy, completeness and other requirements, assuring that required budget exists and project budget revisions are initiated as needed.

Assist with the review of project documents for clarity and completeness (e.g., contracts, requisitions, bill of materials, material requests for issue, etc.).

Assist with the coordination of pre-engineering site visits to ensure that designs are appropriate and based upon actual field conditions. Travels to various off-site locations as well as office locations, training facilities and customer sites when requested.

Respond to requests for clearances and outages by researching GIS records and preparing recommendations for clearance points, to be reviewed by Project Management Specialists and Project Coordinators.

Assist with negotiations for approvals from affected departments to support the proposed schedule and resource requirements, including the review and approval of project plans.

Assist with oversight of the activities of consultants and contractors, coordinating assignments to ensure FirstEnergy policies and standards are followed.

Identifies, for the Project Management Specialist/Project Coordinator, applicable topics delineated in the Service Contractor Orientation/Evaluation Checklist, including any supplemental site specific information upon mobilization to the site.

Provides the Project Management Specialist/Project Coordinator with project status (i.e. scope, budget, schedule process) and identifies issues requiring management involvement for resolution.

Assist with the quality assurance and control program, which includes the identification of quality requirements.

Assist with the close-out/post project review of documentation applicable to the department’s area of functional responsibility.

Aid in conducting meetings and organizing presentations to support and promote various projects and initiatives.

Assist Project Management Specialist/Project Coordinator in providing technical reports, metrics and strategies to ensure compliance with Company practices and procedures.

Provides assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities as a field crew coordinator, outage assessment, hazard dispatcher, hazard responder or analyst as needed.

Responsibilities at the Distribution Tech lI level include:

Research which responsible parties are necessary to provide the information needed for the Request for Project Approval (RPA).

Support the review of project and contract budgets for adequacy, completeness and other requirements, assuring that required budget exists and project budget revisions are initiated as needed. Research the documentation, scheduling, and disposition of open items applicable to department’s area of functional responsibility are completed.

Support the review of project documents for clarity and completeness (e.g., contracts, requisitions, bill of materials, material requests for issue, etc.). Recommend actions to Project Management Specialists/Project Coordinators if work is incomplete. Research the technical and administrative requirements from the department’s area of responsibility.

Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices (i.e. substation, overhead lines, underground lines), procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities

Qualifications at the Distribution Tech ll level include all the above plus:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline along with 1-2 years of related work experience, or Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline along with 3-5 years of related job experience, or High School Diploma (or GED) along with 6 or more years related work experience. Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices (i.e. substation, overhead lines, underground lines), procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
