IBM Linux Remote Technical Support in GUADALAJARA, Mexico

Your Role and Responsibilities

Linux Remote Technical Support

The candidates for this position should have experience supporting enterprise class IT environments, preferably Linux environments. IBM Linux support works with IBM’s largest clients providing technical assistance, diagnosing Linux defects and advising clients on upgrades.

IBM Linux support is responsible for three distributions, Red Hat, SUSE and Ubuntu and three platforms, x86, Power and System z. As a result the environment is very dynamic, exposing the team to a broad range of technologies and endless learning opportunities.

IBM supports our Linux clients utilizing a follow-the-sun model, even with this there is an on-call rotation required. All team members are required to take part in the rotation.

Linux Support

Primary job responsibilities

  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues; develop solutions for our customers while understanding their business needs

  • Be part of the product development cycle including pre-release testing, fix bugs and patching

  • Ensure customers get the maximum value from and easily use our solutions and subscriptions

  • Collaborate with other engineers and developers to develop creative solutions for our customers, including solution fixes

  • Exceed customer expectations by providing outstanding customer service via phone and web

  • Update our customers and ensure they are satisfied with our support service

  • Share your knowledge gained by contributing to the global Red Hat knowledge management system; present troubleshooting instructions and solutions to other engineers within the domain

Required skills

  • Linux system administration experience, including installation methods, networking, firewall, security, clustering, web servers, and databases

  • Working knowledge of Java, Python, C, or other programming language

  • Solid troubleshooting and debugging skills

  • Passion for problem solving and investigation

  • Quality customer service skills and prior help desk or customer-focused experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the enterprise IT industry

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or other Linux certification beneficial

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

  • Fluency in additional languages, e.g., Portuguese is an advantage

  • Knowledge of cloud and container based technologies or webserver support is a plus
