System Administrator 4-IT
Employee Automation & Compute – Environment Delivery team assembles training environments to provide education platforms on Oracle products for both internal and external Oracle University (OU) customers, and Oracle partners. The team works with Oracle University and the Oracle Product Development / Curriculum Development organizations in these development and rollout activities as well as production operational support team problem escalation and resolution.
Technical customer facing support position that is primarily focused on providing OU new environment builds, migration efforts, quality assurance (QA) implementation, support to local OU and Curriculum Development teams, and VM conversions. The technical environments can be dynamically built through the use of scripting tools, or through the creation of a static Oracle Virtual (VM) environment that will run on the local classroom hardware or the remote OU (OnPrem) Cloud, Live Virtual Class (LVC) hubs and the Oracle Public Cloud (OPC). This role will engage in building training environments on the cloud, converting virtualized environments from several different types of VMs (Oracle VM, VBox, Xen) as well as engaged in migration from older to newer Operating Systems. An additional key role will be interacting with Curriculum Development and Oracle University QA teams in securing QA scripting within existing and newly developed OU environments. Duties and tasks are varied and can be quite complex, requiring the ability to work independently, or in a team setting.
Example of Duties:
Migration of desktop and remote (Cloud) environments from older Linux, Windows and Solaris operating systems to newer versions.
Setup and facilitate local development environments in partnership with OU QA team for incorporation of QA checking scripts and modules as outlined in the Global Rollout Process.
Convert environments from physical to virtual systems, facilitate validation and rollout of converted environments. This is for both Linux and windows OS and onto primarily VBOX VM ( Virtual Box).
Assist OU Operations with Service Requests (SRs) raised on the local and remote development environments, troubleshoot and repair and/or escalate as required.
Communicate issue resolution to team members and partner LOB teams.
Use project tools to properly update and document development projects.
Create and distribute Courseware rollout announcements
Development and life cycle maintenance of Oracle University technical courseware environments
Participation in planning, development, deployment and life cycle management of all Oracle University courseware environments
Process documentation, development documentation and Operational Support documentation are a part of the daily duties of the position
Interaction between several Oracle LOBs such as Oracle Product Development, Oracle Curriculum Development, Global Enterprise Services Operations and Oracle University Product management is necessary to perform this job successfully
Technical Skill Requirements:
Understanding of the advanced principles and concepts of computer architecture
Experience with scripting languages (Perl, VB, bash, .bat, shell)
Experience with REST API programming, experience with Python, JSON and APEX
Additional cloud tools, such as Github, Docker, Chef, Terraform
Experience with most major Operating systems: Linux, Windows, Solaris
Database administration, Pl/SQL, HTMLDB
Familiarization of virtualization and concepts: VBox, VMWare, Oracle VM
Ability to read, understand, and apply product installation guides and updates in order to perform hands-on configuration of the Oracle technology products
Ability to lead or contribute to environment design sessions, and / or assess existing training environments to tailor to customer specifications
Basic/Intermediate HTML/Web Skills
Troubleshoot, implement and maintain networking/distributed computing environments
Understand basic principals of networking, client/server programming, and the design of consistent network-wide file systems
Knowledge of hardware components. SUN hardware background is a plus
A strong understanding of Environment Delivery and Oracle University systems and processes is desired.
Good technical knowledge of the Oracle products (Database and Middle tier and BIEE) and the ability to learn new product skills as needed by job requirement are strongly desired.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
Confident and clear communicator of the English language
3 years of relevant experience in described field
Experience working in software development or support organization
Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication
Willingness to be available outside of scheduled working hours to assist in critical situations
Ability to manage multiple tasks

Define, design, and implement network communications and solutions within a fast-paced, leading edge database/applications company.
Responsible for creating and implementing system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliablility of the system. Manage the load configurations of a central data communication processor and make recommendations for purchase or upgrade of data networks. Coordinate terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing, and servicing. Approves action requests and specifies purchase requisitions. Negotiates and places orders with common carriers. May play a team leader role for developing System Administrators.
Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Eight years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.
