The Shell Technology Centre in Hamburg is one of our global hubs of developing new and better fuels and lubricants. Our extensive research and development facilities in Hamburg allow us to offer a broad range of expertise on Retail Fuels and Automotive / Industrial Lubricants as well as newer sources of transportation energy, e.g. electricity, bio fuels or hydrogen.
Together with the vehicle testing and fuels blending department the fuels testing lab provides technology innovation and product development working on research projects for continuously improving and developing our Shell fuels incl. Diesel, Gasoline and Biofuels, e.g. for our Shell V-Power brand or in cooperation with OEMs as well as for Ferrari Formula One.
What’s the role?
Managing a team of ten lab technicians the Team leader Fuels Lab is the main contact for all laboratory testing activities through collaboration with fuel scientists in the global Shell fuels organization. In this role you provide direct support to various projects - such as the new generation of V-Power development, new fuels with high bio component, F1 and motorsport fuel development - and ensure that high quality test results are being delivered on-time and budget, while adhering to all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
Your main responsibilities include:
Management and coordination of fuels testing activities among lab technicians
Monitoring of lab utilization (KPIs) and costs and implementation of efficiency improvement activities
Maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, incl. CAPEX projects in fuels lab
Support of quality procedures, audits and accreditations
Coordination of material purchases for the lab
Accountable for adhering to all Shell and governmental rules and regulations with regards to handling hazardous materials and REACH.
Managing the Laboratory IT System
Representation of Shell’s research department to internal and external lab visitors

What we need from you
As this role requires strong collaboration with internal scientists as well as day management of lab testing activities we are looking for an ambitious chemical technician with extraordinary project management and communication skills. Therefore, the following qualifications are preferred:
Laboratory apprenticeship or study degree in chemical engineering or similar education
Experience working in a lab environment
Awareness in handling hazardous materials/chemicals
Experiences in scheduling and project management
Fluency in English and German language (B2, spoken and written)
