With Shell’s Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) development team, you will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and technical skills in order to deliver the required products for Shell’s Motorsport partnership with Ferrari F1.

Where you fit?

Located in four countries (US, UK, Germany and China), The PCMO development team is part of Shell’s Global Commercial Technology organisation in the Projects & Technology space. The primary purpose of this team is to support aggressive business growth objectives by developing and supporting technology-leading and strongly differentiated passenger car motor oils for use in our key consumer brands (Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell Helix, Shell Advance), by major automotive car manufacturers (OEMs) and by our Motorsport partners.

As Motorsport Project Leader, you will be part of the European Engine Oil Development Team which covers PCMO and HDDEO development activities for European based Automotive OEMs and performance demonstration for relevant branded products.

What’s the role?

As Motorsport Project Leader, your key focus is to develop innovative engine oil formulations and to be accountable for blending and delivery of the required products to designated locations at the proper time for Shell’s Motorsport partnerships (mainly for Ferrari F1, supporting developments for Ducati, Hyundai WRC, BMW DTM etc as required). You will be delivering differentiated reasons to believes for the Track-to-Road story and to support in various communication events. In this role, you will also be collaborating with other Lubricants project leaders as required in order to deliver other lubricant, fuel and service solutions to Motorsports partners.

Your more specific duties include:

  • Provide co-ordination of product development, co-engineering and other technical partnership projects supporting Ferrari F1 activities and other Motorsport partnerships.

  • Establish an in-depth technical relationship with the customer Motorsport teams and work closely with various stakeholder groups in Shell (Fuel development, Engine and Component Testing, third party providers, Lubes Science, Shell Brand International and global key accounts)

  • Responsible for development and maintenance of non-disclosure agreements with Motorsports partners and suppliers, and ensuring appropriate management of intellectual property generated.

  • Manage and deliver the engine oil development activity by project planning, alignment of objective and milestones and by regular stakeholder reporting

  • Focus continuously on improvement opportunities in the area of logistics, development process, collaboration with external providers, sharing best practices between different Motorsports codes where appropriate.

What we need from you?

As Motorsport Project Leader, your proven communication and customer relationship skills will be greatly needed.

Beyond that, we are keen to see evidence of the following on your CV:

  • A background in Research science or engineering (Preferably PhD or master’s degree).

  • An understanding of automotive engineering demonstrated either through education or in-job experience.

  • Knowledge of Automotive lubricants applications.

  • An understanding of tribology and relevant tribo-systems and ways to assess those in our inhouse laboratories as a benefit

  • Strong team-working, inter-personal & networking skills demonstrated in a distributed environment, operating to demanding technical targets and deadlines.

  • Proven record of delivery, with evidence of drive and creativity coupled with a structured and disciplined approach to project management.

  • Ability to work directly with other Shell functions and 3rd parties to deliver solutions.

  • Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.

  • Knowledge of key building blocks of passenger car motor oil lubricant formulations as a benefit

  • An understanding of safety implications of novel components and base oils.
