Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Data Analysis, Acquisition, Preparation, and Exploration: Assist with Data Acquisition, Prep and Exploration following well defined criteria and steps. Apply data derivations, business transformation rules, and data requirements. Perform basic analysis with guidance of others. Identify issues and recommend solutions. Data Solutions & Analytic Implementations: Under guidance operationalize and automate well defined simple data products. Learning and partner with others in providing training to users. Data Culture: Begin to develop basic insurance and business intelligence and analytics knowledge through daily work assignments. Learn Travelers BI&A standards, processes, and environmental landscape. Understand core data management competencies - data governance, data security, data quality. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marketing Description:

Job Summary:

The Claim Business Intelligence & Analytics organization is seeking a highly-motivated Data Engineer to support Business Discovery projects in Claim. This role will focus on manufacturing data products for use in business discovery applications as well as operationalizing data products for Qlik View applications. This position will support all lines of business and will provide the opportunity to solve many different types of business problems and will leverage different data sources for different projects. Successful candidates will be able to perform data analyses and transformations on many data sources, both internal and external, and structured and unstructured. You should be comfortable working with SQL, as well as with a general data science programming language, such as Python. Experience working with a big data platform (i.e. Hadoop) and/or a cloud platform (i.e. AWS) is a plus.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:

Education: College Degree in STEM related field

Technical Knowledge: Basic knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred. Examples (but not limited to): Big data and Cloud platforms Programming languages - SAS, SQL, Spark, Python, Hive, AWS Visualization platforms: QlikView, Tableau and Qlik Sense

Experience: Prior relevant intern experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

College degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation experience required.
