Node.JS / Java Application Developer
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs system programming tasks of basic complexity that are often repeatable. Responsibilities include performing basic analysis, coding, testing, debugging, configuration, incident investigation, documentation, application health monitoring/alerting, and implementation of programs.. Other duties as assigned.
Integration of user-facing elements with server side logic
Design and implementation of low-latency, high-availability, and performant applications
Integration of data storage solutions that may include NoSQL databases
Writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
Work closely with UX designers, business partners, business analysts and software architects to deliver highly usable software that satisfies the business requirements
Work closely with backend engineers and architects to suggest and plan the best solution with the UX in mind

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies:
Preferred 1-2 years’ hands on experience with technologies listed below :
Experience with Node.js and frameworks available for it such as Express, Mongoose etc.
Java development experience
Experience with continuous delivery processes
Proficient understanding of code distributed and collaborative versioning tools, such as GIT, GITHub
MongoDB or NoSQL equivalent database experience
Technical Knowledge: Developing analytical skills for programming/ configuration tasks, identifying discrepancies, incident and defect trends and resolutions, solution delivery, monitoring and/or support of applications of basic complexity. In addition, demonstrates an aptitude for learning assigned supported business systems and technology. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate thoughts/ideas clearly. Demonstrates basic active and effective communication skills with team members - including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills. Effectively contributes and communicates with the immediate team. Problem Solving & Decision Making: Able to recognize and analyze basic technology defects and incidents and develop timely, practical, cost effective solutions with supervisory assistance. Able to identify cause and effect relationships in assigned systems and applications. Team Orientation: Ability to foster relationships with peers to achieve objectives. Practices objectivity and openness to others' views Planning: Ability to manage time and competing priorities. Developing the ability to accurately evaluate and estimate new tasks. Developing a planning skill set including providing management with accurate and timely status information.

As a key contributor to Business Insurance strategic initiatives, the Node.JS / Java Application Developer will actively contribute to design and delivery activities, perform UI and Microservices level design and development as well as development of server-side components to satisfy front-end requirements. Initiatives may be related to Policy Administration, Work Management or Underwriting Workstation. These initiatives will employ advanced technologies and methodologies in order to deliver critical business functionality incrementally and adhering to architectural principles of reuse and multi-device deployment.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Prior technology internship or work experience preferred.
Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
