Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for ownership of a specific LINE OF BUSINESS OR FUNCTION value stream(s) of high complexity; delivers upon the strategic discretionary investment dollars associated with that portfolio. Helps shape LINE OF BUSINESS OR FUNCTION strategy, operating vision, business imperatives and capabilities and how they work together to define technology imperatives and business capabilities. Defines market facing capabilities that align with the LINE OF BUSINESS OR FUNCTION's strategic imperatives, focusing on projects leveraging new technology to maintain and expand our competitive advantage. Partner with business customers to define executable investments that meet their business objectives, gain organizational commitment and transition into execution. Directly leads definition and refinement of Project scope, solution approach and delivery cost/timeline parameters (both at the content and structure level) for efforts of high cost or complexity. Supports Sr. Business leaders in the analysis activities, requirements gathering and solution development to ensure business capability integrity is agreed to. Works with business and technical leadership to explore and define how the proposed solutions will fit into the overall enterprise architecture. Manages the delivery and execution of programs to ensure business capability is realized. Defines the performance goals/SLA, KPIs and key milestones for the proposed solutions. May lead or assist in the development of the project CBA, providing input and driving balance of solution cost and benefit realization against capability goals and objectives. Develops and maintains integrated Program/Project plan with detailed deliverables, dependencies, IT milestones and end-to-end critical path. Proactively manages and mitigates risk and appropriately escalates issues. Provides specific information and expertise to help inform forward looking capability strategies. Serves as a liaison to the business community to ensure that its needs are fully understood by the project team(s). Accountable for a portfolio of work that may be executed by more junior employees, while providing oversight, coaching and support. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • P&C experience desired but not required

  • Agile

  • Operations or billing experience is preferred

  • Experience building cost benefit analyses

  • Strong understanding of technology systems development lifecycle (agile required), architectural concepts, etc

  • Portfolio Management / Roadmapping

  • Business Solutioning

  • Approx. 4-8 projects in-flight at any one time in the portfolio, with 3-4 under their direct leadership

  • Acts as a primary liaison between business and IT.

As a Sr. Director, Business Delivery, you’ll be joining an organization that has end-to-end accountability for defining capabilities to meet business objectives, leading delivery of small to large-sized projects of moderate to high complexity to bring capabilities to market, and monitoring results post-implementation. This is a project delivery and portfolio management role where you’ll have the opportunity to apply your business acumen and critical thinking to define solutions to deliver the expected value – then see the execution through to implementation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the definition and execution of a portfolio of business & technology investments that will enable Travelers to enhance our operational efficiency, advance our billing capabilities, and partner with the enterprise on shared investments.

  • Partner with business owners in operations to improve our processes and technology to achieve tangible benefits.

  • Collaborate with Personal Insurance and Billing stakeholders to advance our capabilities to improve customer experience and operational results.

  • For enterprise investments, oversee the delivery of the Personal Insurance portion to ensure delivery excellence.

  • On an ongoing basis, partner with business leaders to continually define future investments and maintain a multi-year roadmap of capabilities targeted at achieving specific financial and experiential results.

Job Summary:

The Sr. Director, Business Delivery defines, communicates and champions the future state vision, roadmap and transformation for a value stream(s) within a specific line of business. The role may also be responsible for leading the definition, execution and implementation of business capability as dictated by the future vision and roadmap for a value stream, or accountable for oversight of delivery by junior members. Capabilities are typically delivered in whole or in-part by a value stream and/or neighboring teams within one or more lines of business or functional areas. This role may be a manager.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:

10+ years of related experience is preferred. Prior experience in delivering projects in agile. Scaled Agile preferred. Prior influencing and negotiating with senior executives experience preferred. Bachelor's or advanced degree preferred.
