The Custodian has safety, customer satisfaction, and business responsibilities within branch operations. The Building Custodian is responsible for keeping buildings and assigned areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.

Skills and Experience Required:


  • Knowing and following all Company safety rules, including maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area.

  • Always working as safely as possible, and participating in hazard identification activities.


  • Service, clean, or supply restrooms.

  • Cleaning of office furniture and fixtures

  • Painting of facility

  • Cleaning plant areas as required

  • Gather and empty trash.

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.

  • Assisting maintenance personnel

  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

  • Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.

  • Fully participate in the company accident prevention and safety improvement activities.

  • Adhere to all company policies, departmental procedures and rules.


  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.

  • Troubleshoot basic plumbing, electrical and general facility problems and promptly notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

  • Requisition supplies as needed.


  • Maintain company and product confidentiality.

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and a high level of personal credibility and integrity with customers, management, and co-workers.

  • Attend and participate in all meetings, trainings, and activities as required.

  • Assist the Service Department with general support of daily tasks

  • Stay apprised of new techniques relevant to the work being performed; achieve and maintain technical competency.

  • Adhere to all Company policies and departmental procedures and rules.

  • All other duties as required.



  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a janitor or building custodian.

  • Stress Tolerance — Job requires accepting feedback and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations. Must be able to work with deadlines and under occasional pressure.

  • Candidate must be able to pass pre-employment drug and background testing, and meet all physical requirements for the position.


  • Employee lifts/carries 50 lbs. occasionally

  • Employee’s position requires pushing a maximum force of 50 lbs.

  • Employee’s position requires pulling a maximum force of 50 lbs.

  • Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Protective Glasses, Protective Gloves, Protective Footwear as required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
