Design Engineer - Medium Voltage Systems - R&D Department
Location: Hengelo, the Netherlands
The Engineer Medium Voltage performs design and technical tasks for New Product development and Design-Maintenance of Switchgear Systems. The design work has both Mechanical and Electrical Power Engineer aspects, and involves Construction (3D CAD), Product Improvements, New Concepts, Testing, Materials, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Robustness, Design to Cost.
Product Development is team work; at R&D we are looking for an engineer with strong technical background, interests and ambitions, who enjoys collaboration in a creative, open and transparent environment.
The Engineer will work with in experienced and knowledgeable team, keen to mentor and coach a talent with drive, passion and who is eager to learn. We are looking for a proactive, self-motivated engineer that joins us in making what matters work!

Development of Electro/Mechanical designs for product updates/new functionalities/new products.
Provide 3D CAD design in line with design standards
Validate new designs with calculations, evaluations, models, prototypes and testing
Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams for identifying and tracking spec compliance, for evaluating designs, manufacturability and product cost
Apply Design for Six Sigma tools, such as Pugh Matrices, dFMEA’s, DFA, Tolerance Studies, Error Proofing, P-Diagrams
Work according a structured Stage-Gate process for product development
Participate in structured Design Reviews for ensuring high quality output of R&D
Be an active member of the R&D department. Promote and be open to a changing environment, accept/provide design feedback from/to different stakeholders.
Built and apply business/ market insights in the area of Medium Voltage Switchgear
Drive results by yourself and others
Search for ways to grow and self-develop on a continuing basis
Understand and commit to Eaton’s values and philosophies
MSc or BSc-plus in Mechanical or Electrical Power Engineering
Proven interest and dedication to designing and making constructions
Competent in working with 3D CAD Software
Competent with general Microsoft Office tools
1 – 3 years’ experience as Design Engineer in relevant business
Design for Six Sigma Green belt (or ambition to achieve)
Team player and keen to learn to learn new disciplines
Understanding of Project Management, with planning and milestones
Good communication skills and interpersonal skills in relation to (inter)national customers, suppliers and colleagues
English and Dutch language
