A data architect demonstrates deep technical knowledge and comprehensive skill sets in designing and deployingenterprise-class data architectures for business applications.A data architect ensures that all data needs for a project are met by delivering deep skills in data life cycle management, based on extensive past project experience; communicates with customer in area of expertise on a project by project basis. The data architect contributes to the best practices in Data Management and is responsible for overseeing and guiding the work of onshore/offshore project resources. Along with executing more complex tasks, a Data Architect is responsible for furthering the development of the Data Management COE through coaching, mentoring and recruiting.

The data architect position requires extensive experience in designing and deploying data architectures which support business applications, and must possess hands-on experience in designing for scalability and performance, creating benchmark tests and implementing large-scale systems. This role will be responsible for recommending data and service architecture as well as technical design for high performance and scalability in a distributed, multi-tier and cross-platform ecosystem. This includes an expectation for thought leadership on projects requiring extensive requirements gathering, data analysis, data modeling, ETL, data design/development and testing. The role also participates in ongoing development and implementation of data management standards, processes and technologies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Creates models of data that enable the implementation of the intended business architecture, create diagrams showing key data entities, and create an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision.

  • Provides a standard common business vocabulary, expresses strategic data requirements, outlines high level integrated designs to meet these requirements, and aligns with enterprise strategy and related product architecture.

  • Works with Application Architects to create/review application design deliverables that are consistent with data architecture principles, standards, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Provides data architecture support / guidance to the development teams during the analysis, development, and testing processes.

  • Provides specialized technical leadership in various data management platforms.

  • Defines technical evaluation criteria for database solutions to result in a coherent systems design.

  • Stays abreast of Deloitte enterprise data domains in order to support the accurate and consistent use of data.

  • Performs applied data related research and prototyping, especially for emerging technologies.

  • Provides expert knowledge of SAP HANA, MS SQL Server and other database platforms to business and technology teams in order to facilitate the collaborative development of technology strategy, roadmaps, and best practices for their products.

  • Communicating implications of database design decisions, technology costs, benefits, and implementation requirements to business and IT Leadership.

  • Providing input to the development of project initiation documents including objectives, scope, approach, estimates, and deliverables. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Software Change Management, Information Security, Performance Engineering, and Infrastructure Technology teams to ensure deployment readiness.

  • Participates in and/or leads production troubleshooting and War Room activities.

  • Stays current with industry data management related product offerings and providing guidance around Deloitte Application Studios long term vendor strategy.

  • Instills a culture of operational excellence and accountability in all resources supporting data initiatives.

  • Seeks and capitalizes on opportunities to improve productivity, time-to-market, solutions quality, and cost effectiveness.
