IBM Mainframe Network Engineer in HERNDON, Virginia

Your Role and Responsibilities

The Mainframe Network Engineer supports the mainframe Network configuration on the OSA in connecting client circuits through the on-prem LAN infrastructure. You'll participate in network planning for the data centers with the broader GBS network team. You'll be responsible for supporting technology assessments, design, infrastructure build, configuration, test and documentation of all aspects of new deployments and technical refresh of existing environments. Requirements for this position include:

  • A solid background in network and server disciplines.

  • Experience configuring and managing network infrastructure between a variety of server platforms, including hardware interfaces and adapters.

  • Understanding of capacity and performance management techniques.

  • Level 3 troubleshooting and problem management skills supporting escalations from operations.

This role may require off hours support and other duties as assigned.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

  • 2+ years of experience supporting design and implementation of mainframe network infrastructure including LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls/security, and software.

  • 2+ years of experience supporting Mainframe network environment and hardware.

  • Exposed to design and implementation of enterprise storage infrastructure.

  • Security+ certification.

  • Computing Environment Certification within six months.

  • Ability to create formal documentation for delivery to operations, and maintenance staff.

  • Excellent teamwork skills.

  • Ability to communicate (both orally and written) effectively to various audiences.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Active Public Trust security clearance.

  • Experience with network administration of zOS and zVM, zLinux.

  • Experience implementing IT security solutions, firewalls and Mainframe security tools (zSecure, Top Secret, RACF, ACF2).

  • Experience with VTAM, TCP/IP, SNA, TN3270E.

  • Experience with zOS Communication Server.

  • Experience with OSA configuration using OSAF.

  • Experience working with Federal government clients is highly desired.
