The Advanced Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer is responsible for production support and New Product Introductions to for a specific group of products. This position interfaces with design, process, test and service engineering as well as other functions when required to solve complex problems. The position is located in Hillsboro, OR.

Specific deliverables associated with this position include:

  • Designs new products and improves existing products via mechanical design projects that may include cost reduction, yield and quality improvement in product development, manufacturing and the field.

  • Engages design engineering early in the Product Management Process (PMP) for New Product Introductions (NPI). This includes creation, analysis and investigation on product design proposals. Specific attention placed on design for manufacturability, testability, reliability and sustainability in manufacturing, service and the supply chain.

  • Works with Supplier Quality Engineering and suppliers to qualify vendor processes and improve quality as needed.

  • Conducts detailed troubleshooting and analysis of system or component level problems that affect reliability and performance for internal and external customers. This may include the use of statistical analysis, 8-Step Problem Solving or other established methods.

  • Performs hands-on assembly, testing and training of personnel as required during project work (i.e., assembly, test or measurement, troubleshooting)

  • Develop and maintain technical product and process documentation.

  • Implement Engineering Change Orders to support production, obsolescence and the supply chain.

  • Facilitates and may lead small cross-functional teams to solve technical issues. Reports the results of process improvement efforts to as needed.

  • Supports Field Service with product and/or process escalations as necessary.

The Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following combination of expertise and education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or other equivalent degree.

  • This position requires 5+ years of experience and demonstrated experience in mechanical design, mechanical assembly and high-vacuum design principles. Design experience using 3D modeling software and finite element analysis required. Working knowledge of machining and brazing processes, semiconductor equipment or microscopy tools including electron, ion or light optics is preferred.

  • Candidate will possess a strong process improvement background. Experience with use of statistical process control and statistical problem solving methods, including Six-Sigma methods is preferred. Must be capable of providing clear and concise analysis of data that may involve multiple factors.

  • Must possess excellent computer skills and demonstrated ability to develop engineering reports using common applications such as Excel, Power Point, Word and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multiple cross-functional departments and sites without damaging relationships. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required.
