We are looking for a dynamic communications professional to take on the role of Editor in Chief for Pearson’s brand journalism platform, which is currently in development. This role will build, lead and manage Pearson’s nascent brand journalism program. The editor will be a key player in significantly raising the Pearson’s storytelling ability and elevating the company’s digital presence as the leader in lifelong learning in today’s talent economy. The ideal candidate will have a journalism background along with experience working in cross-functional teams to create and deploy compelling editorial content.

The editor must have top-notch news judgment, with the ability to work inside Pearson to discover interesting stories and the ability to work outside the company to find great storytelling partners and voices. He or she should be able to guide and mentor others in the company as they contribute to the program. The ideal candidate lives and breathes news and stays plugged into social and cultural trends in order to leverage Pearson as a contributor to the big conversations happening in the world. He or she will also be a culture ambassador inside the team and the company. This role works closely with the social media and brand teams, reports to the VP, Innovation Communications and will be based out of our Hoboken, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to communicating Pearson’s innovation story through concepting and development of key Pearson and learner-centric stories for our new brand storytelling platform and channels

  • Develop and drive the strategy for Pearson’s brand journalism efforts

  • Serve as the editor-in-chief for Pearson’s brand journalism platform, setting editorial guidelines, creating the editorial calendar for the site and overseeing the development of all content

  • Serve as the chief writer for the site and work closely with both in house and agency staff on the creation of additional content

  • Develop and manage a third party contributor program that curates external storytelling voices

  • Find innovative ways to tailor existing content in order to make it as relevant and as engaging as possible for use on brand storytelling platforms

  • Work closely with the Pearson global social media team to stand up and manage any social channels associated with the brand journalism effort

  • Establish and manage reporting on key performance indicators for the program

  • Help drive internal thinking about how Pearson shows up in the world and articulate POVs with clear executable tactics that will help test and prove new ways Pearson can communicate with key audiences.

  • Collaborate with all GCAM functions including, financial communications, strategy and operations, government affairs and key functions outside of GCAM including Strategy, North America and Product

  • Work closely with a team of agencies and consultants responsible for content development and social media support

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience as journalist at a print, online or broadcast news outlet or experience running a brand journalism program for a major consumer brand, or marquee non profit or education brand

  • Proven track record of creating engaging digital content in support of purpose led brand

  • Excellent writing skills and an understand of great visual storytelling

  • Experience developing sophisticated, hyper engaging content

  • Understanding of social media platforms and paid media tactics and how those work in concert with storytelling and brand journalism

  • including creating, tracking and communicating key performance indicators across digital channels

  • Ability to be a culture carrier within an organization and inspire others with positive attitude and enthusiasm

  • A high level of professionalism, maturity and accountability
