This role is supporting the K12 Learning Services team. This position will be located in the Hoboken, NJ area.

The Royalties Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the K12 USLS royalty department, managing the end to end process for royalties reporting, from entry of contracts into the royalty system, to statement reporting and payment to authors, and financial reporting of royalty costs to the company. The manager works directly with internal and external stakeholders to maintain controls and service levels; provide training on royalty-related procedures; resolve any issues; and ensure accurate and timely reporting and payment to rights holders. The manager may interact with authors or their representatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages staff’s daily workload and workflow (i.e., assign, distribute, review, and adjust staff workload as necessary to maintain productivity and efficiency)

Evaluate, recommend and assist in implementing process improvements for the department

Respond to and resolve inquiries or requests from business units; editorial groups; legal department; contracts department; authors; agents and other groups both inside and outside the company

Select, develop and train a competent and motivated staff

Conducts performance appraisals; makes salary recommendations; and gives timely performance feedback

Oversees the efforts needed and preparation of information applicable to author audits

Integrations/Divestitures – Serves as coordinator for the area

Works closely with systems group to resolve issues and determine future system requirements

Provides functional expertise as needed (i.e., on the business; royalty system and operations). Anticipates royalty issues and develops strategies to address.

Overall responsibility for royalty performance measures for the team

Performs other duties as needed, including special projects as required

Schedule printing of prelim/final statement runs

Oversees statement review process

Reviews and evaluates statements/reserves

Reviews contract information from contracts and editorial departments. Enters contract data into the royalty system.

Manages reconciliation of Royalty Accounts and reconciliation of sales feeds

Oversees Royalty I.Q. system to ensure that customer services are being provided

Uses reports and other tools to facilitate and track workflow (i.e., contracts on hold/initial set up, suspense, daily work log, etc.)

Manages annual audits and quarterly reviews by external auditors

Monitors select author and manual reviews for each royalty period

Monitors and maintains suspense to acceptable tolerance

Ensures that internal control procedures are in place and properly documented

Ensures that internal control procedures are in place and properly documented

Prepares quarterly reserve analysis for business managers

Reviews royalty check requisitions

Reviews complex/select author agreements

Assures accounting policies and procedures are strictly adhered to and are current

Conducts workshops for editorial groups to discuss procedures and services

Coordinates tax reporting

Reviews and initiates journal entries

Assists in researching the disposition of sales in suspense

Determines adequacy of reserves/input of write offs

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Related work experience-Five to ten years supervisory experience, preferably in

finance or business operations. Publishing and royalties experience a plus.

Formal education or equivalent Minimum 4 year degree or equivalent related

work experience

Skills (preferred)

Excellent managerial skills; decisiveness; detailed oriented; good reading

comprehension; knowledge of accounting principles; strong analytical skills and

the ability to lead process improvements.

Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications

Experience with ERP systems (SAP), and DataMart’s; Business Objects

reporting tools

Knowledge of RAS
