Kaiser Permanente CD Hospital Operations in Honolulu, Hawaii

Oversees hospital administrative daily operations. Ensures accessible, appropriate, patient-focused, and cost effective services. Collaborates with administrative and medical teams to ensure timely, quality care, and safe hospital operations. Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures to support organizational goals and business objectives. Evaluates process to improve systems across continuum. Identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care/services. Serves as role model.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, & authority parameters to assigned staff.

  • Promotes staff development. Coordinates & conducts in-services. Collaborates w/ educators to meet identified needs of staff.

  • Ensures staff completes mandatory education & clinical competencies as per policy.

  • Provides nursing consultation to unit staff, peers & other hospital personnel.

  • Provides mgmt coverage for nursing department.

  • Acts as on-site administrative representative for Hospital Administration outside of customary business hours. Communicates w/ & reports to Administrator-On-Call issues affecting hospital operations. Provides direction & support to ancillary services after hours to ensure quality service & a safe environment for patients & staff.

  • Provides direction for Hospital Operations team. Is responsible to Hospital Administration for daily operations of hospital.

  • Responds to all patient & facility emergencies. Serves as Incident Commander & Operations Manager in the Emergency Operations Center during facility & community emergency situations. Observes and/or facilitates direct response to assure resolution & documentation of processes.

  • Identifies risk mgmt issues & potential & actual significant events. Initiates proper procedures. Communicates w/ Administrator on Call. Communicates w/ other department or unit managers for follow up or additional action.

  • Maintains oversight of hospital capacity & capability for services at all times. In consultation w/ Administrator on Call, Institutes & discontinues diversionary status of hospital services, based on immediately available capacity & capability of hospital services as defined. Triggers diverts for hospital (e.g. units/ER).

  • Communicates pertinent information at shift reports, to Unit Managers, to the Administrator-on-call, & to other departmental leaders as appropriate.

  • Triages & prioritizes patients for admission. Assigns admissions in accordance w/ patient needs. Ensures quality patient care according to professional practice guidelines & established staffing policies & procedures.

  • Accepts all transferred patients on behalf of hospital considering immediate & anticipated hospital capacity, staffing & service capability. Coordinates w/ Hospital Operations team the transfer of patients from local & out-of-area facilities to meet patient care needs.

  • Facilitates & coordinates emergent care and/or provision for safety needs. Authorizes mobilization and/or activation of personnel across continuum, as necessary, to facilitate hospital operations, patient care and/or ensure a safe environment.

  • Coordinates patient care through sustained interaction w/ physicians & health care team. Advocates for patients & families. Serves as Administrative Representative for resolution & documentation of customer service issues. Communicates to appropriate staff for further action.

  • Communicates w/ unit charge nurse & monitors patient care. Assesses complex patient care situations (e.g., sitters/specials, class IV's).

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum two (2) years of acute care experience, including experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, posthire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable.


  • Bachelor's degree in nursing OR RN with three (3) years of nursing leadership and/or charge nurse experience.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Valid Hawaii RN license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure).

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, quality management, and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nursing management/leadership experience.

  • Master's degree in nursing administration or public health administration.
