Our East Honolulu wastewater treatment plant has an opening for a plant maintenance technician.
The position involves the maintenance and repair of equipment at our conventional secondary treatment plant and seven pump stations as well as the servicing of our collection system which consists of approximate 62 miles of pipes.
The position requires a basic understanding of mechanics, hydraulics and electronics. In particular, the successful candidate must possess the ability to repair or rebuild pumps and compressors (both centrifugal as well as positive displacement), as well as other equipment such as screens, sludge rakes, gear drives and all types of valves.
The candidate should also understand low voltage (24v) control circuits and be able to operate control panels and circuit breakers. In addition, the possession of metalworking and welding skills will be considered an advantage in the selection process.
Must be willing periodically serve as an on-call person to address after-hour emergencies; must be available for overtime as needed and must be willing and able to be trained on the operation of our Vactor truck.
High School diploma or state recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate required
Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license
Minimum of five years of experience and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year from date of hire.
Physical requirements of this position are the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, climb, and perform work in confined spaces.
