Global Contracts is one of 6 departments reporting directly to the Global Commercial Operations (GCO) Manager. It provides commercially focused contractual advice and administration services to STASCO London, SETL London, Shell West Barbados, SITME Dubai, SIETCO Singapore, STR Rotterdam, STRU Moscow, STUSCO Houston, STC Calgary and STGP North America commercial teams. In line with the Shell Trading Network Policies and Schedule of Authorities, the Global Contracts Units are responsible for the management of the entire trading contracts process from the provision of pre-deal commercial advice to contract drafting, internal authorization and dispatch of contracts/confirmations and responses. The Commercial Advisor's role is the provision of pre and post deal commercial advice, contract authorization and ad hoc problem solving.
The Commercial Advisor provides commercial, paralegal and general oil and freight contract advice for physical contracts to the trading teams highlighting the commercial and financial risks associated with their business.
Draft, review and negotiate, term deals, tenders, storage, and master/sideletter agreements directly with customers with an emphasis on negotiating terms that maximizes value and mitigates contractual exposures.
Assist and advise the trading teams in negotiating more complex contractual arrangements and in resolving contractual disputes with customers, liaising with legal as necessary.
Represent the Contracts team in new business development/growth or projects.
Develop a corporate memory database to ensure that the accumulated experience of traders, schedulers, contracts and claims staff are captured and past learnings applied to minimize profit leakage.
Coach/mentor the Contract Coordinators.
Maintain compliance with local implementation policies, MOA, CARM and SOX controls.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of three (3) years experience within the Oil and Gas industry handling contracts or equivalent legal experience.
Prior experience in the Trading area or relative degree is preferred.
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems and adapt aspects of trading contracts is preferred.
Ability to recommend improvements to the control framework would be an asset.
Contract and/or operations experience in dealing with international marine cargos would be an asset.
