The successful candidate will provide technical support and guidance to Shell's Trading & Supply (T&S) group, as well as contribute to strengthening the Downstream supply chain quality assurance process by embedding and driving continuous improvement in our Fuels Product Quality Management Framework. This role will also be the key Trading & Supply interface with other CoB(s) and will work closely with P&T (Projects and Technologies) Fuels Technology as well as the Fuels Product Management Excellence team to provide technical support to Retail and Commercial Fuels businesses which include delivery 2nd level Customer Technical Support in the country/cluster.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Monitoring and reviewing quality assurance performance, identifying hotspots and delivering improvement initiatives for the purpose of strengthening product quality across the supply chain and delivery of cost effective and fit for purpose fuel products that meet our promises on quality and performance.

  • Grow margin and reduce costs through risk based Product Quality approach. Proactive review of Product Supply Specifications (PSS) to avoid value leakage.

  • Engage and align key stakeholders to deliver on quality assurance requirement throughout the supply chain.

  • Responsible for the fuel product quality issues in relevant Americas/cluster in an integrated manner from the refinery gate (or supply source) through distribution to Retail and Commercial customers and up to the customer tank. This position will focus on the US/Mexico, but will an active part of the Americas T&S Fuels Product Quality team.

  • Responsible for the implementation of the relevant Product Quality Standards, Manuals and Procedures in the US/Mexico for the purpose of strengthening Product Quality performance across the supply chain; minimizing the number Product Quality incidents and mitigating its impact.

  • Responsible for Product Quality Incident Reporting (PQIR) within the US/Mexico and ensures that all Product Quality incidents are managed in accordance with the Fuels Product Quality Incident Management Standard, including the review process at relevant management meetings and communicating learning from Product Quality incidents.

  • Responsible for identification and implementation of Fuels Product Quality related activities/initiatives to grow business/margin or reduce costs.

  • Represent Shell in industry forum, NGOs and national standard bodies, in the US/Mexico on issues pertaining to fuel specifications, alternative fuels, and environmental issues, to proactively influence legislators/key stakeholders in aligning local regulations on fuel quality with Shell’s strategic objectives and Global Fuels Strategy.

  • Responsible for providing technical support to T&S, Retail, Commercial Fuels and Aviation businesses in the US/Mexico.

  • Provide technical support on fuels marketing initiatives, new fuel grade introduction and product launches, and interfaces as appropriate with T&S, Retail Marketing, Commercial Fuels Marketing/Business Development, Project & Technology. Provide envelope regulatory expertise advice where required.

  • Responsible for management and maintenance of product data in the country/cluster, with particular attention to ensuring completeness and accuracy of data for MSDS.

  • Responsible to support annual fuels regulatory compliance checks and accountable to deliver on fuels specification related advocacy.

Dimensions

  • The Americas T&S PQ team provides PQ support across the Downstream business, in the US, Canada and Mexico. Each of these countries has its challenges in terms of business context, legal and regulatory framework.

  • The PQ team plays a key role in Product Quality Incident Management and in leveraging Product Quality knowledge to create business value.

  • A primary focus of this role will be acting as the Product Quality Lead to the T&S organization in Mexico business in support of the Retail and Aviation growth plans in the country.

Requirements:

  • Must have legal right to work in the US without sponsorship.

  • University degree with qualifications in engineering, chemicals or science or equivalent professional experience.

  • 5 or more years of work experience in at least one of the following: Technical/Commercial sales, Product Development, Refinery (laboratory, economics and scheduling, oil movements) or technical/operational supply chain positions.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.

  • Managing quality across multiple businesses/interfaces in the supply chain.

  • Previous experience of providing technical support to customer, internal or external (governments; OEMs, NGOs) on product or HSE related issues preferred.

  • Fuels, chemicals, and/or specialty products technical experience preferred.

  • Providing timely and effective technical support to 24/7 business operations.

  • Requires virtual team working.
