This position will report to the Chief Geophysicist and be located in Houston.

You will be part of a small team of Geophysics experts within the Technical Services organization that services Oxy’s geoscientists worldwide in their task to expedite and optimize the economic recovery of hydrocarbons from some of the largest, most challenging onshore reservoirs in the world. The Geophysical Advisor - Acquisition provides all Oxy departments with seismic acquisition design support such as field design, equipment specification, and contractor qualification. The successful candidate should have a keen desire to apply new and off the shelf technologies creatively to seismic acquisition. Furthermore, through close collaboration with various departments the candidate must help ensure the quality of seismic acquisition throughout the company. Finally, the candidate will disseminate seismic acquisition knowledge through mentoring and training of geophysical staff.



  • Master’s Degree in Geophysics

  • Minimum of 15 years hands-on experience in seismic acquisition, of which 10 onshore

  • Proven expert in onshore seismic data acquisition

  • Skilled in fiber optic DAS and micro-seismic acquisition

  • Skilled in 3D VSP and time-lapse acquisition

  • Skilled in capturing and communicating uncertainty in recommendations

  • Knowledgeable about Compressive Sensing acquisition and reconstruction techniques

  • Knowledgeable about impact of seismic acquisition on amplitude fidelity and subsequent processing

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities with the ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information

  • Creative thinker with a desire to challenge the status quo and the ability to implement new ideas, processes and technologies

  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to mentor others

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present work product in an effective manner

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently and meet tight deadlines

Additional Desired Qualifications:

Permian Basin, Middle East, and/or Colombia experience

CO2 or steam-flood time-lapse reservoir monitoring experience
