CACI International Hardware Controller Software Development Engineer in Houston, Texas

Job Description

CACI is looking for Software Engineers to work with the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have a strong interest in spacecraft, software design, development, and testing, hardware/software integration, have had an outstanding academic career, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

What You’ll Get to Do:

This work involves design and development of the ARGOS facility upgrade to prepare for NASA’s return to the Moon. ARGOS provides a reduced gravity environment used for engineering analysis, crew trials, and training for space operations in microgravity or lower gravity on a planetary surface. An astronaut or robot is strapped into the ARGOS harness so that the system removes the effects of Earth’s gravity. This will support NASA’s deep-space exploration initiative and the return to the moon and on to Mars. The engineer will support the ARGOS software and hardware upgrades from conception, design, analysis, integration, through to operational test and certification for operations.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.More About the Role:

  • Verify, validate, and analyze requirements.

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test of ARGOS software.

  • Integrate software/hardware with EtherCAT modules, sensors, and motor controllers.

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test the Graphical User Interfaces (GUI).

  • Create documentation of the ARGOS software.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG Facilities.

  • B.S. in Computer, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines required plus a minimum 2-year experience in full-time software development.

  • Experience in all phases of the software design process (including concept brainstorming, requirements definition, prototyping, design, analysis, and validation).

  • Experience with software/hardware integration, sensors, motor controllers.

  • Experience with C++ and Java.

  • Experience with GUI design and development.

  • Working knowledge of and ability to abide by coding standards and create software documentation.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.

  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.

  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • M.S. in Computer, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and 5+ years of full-time software development experience (preferred).

  • Experience in controls.

  • Experience with EtherCAT or CAN.

  • Experience working with Linux and Linux configuration.

  • Experience with the Project Management and design cycle, e.g., PDR, CDR, processes.
