CACI International Lunar Gateway Autonomous Controls Engineer in Houston, Texas

Job Description

CACI is looking for an experienced Autonomous Controls Engineer to support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center with controls and software systems engineering experience to support the design and development of autonomous control systems. This engineering position involves the design, development, and prototyping of autonomous control algorithms and systems used for future spacecraft.

  • Design distributed, hierarchical control systems for autonomous spacecraft.

  • Develop prototypes of complex autonomous systems and their interactions

  • Analyze control system designs

  • Document interface requirements and designs that promote stable interoperability

  • Interface with NASA and spacecraft developer engineering teams.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.

  • At least five years of related experience in:

  • Distributed hybrid control systems architecture

  • Controllability/observability analysis for complex systems

  • Understanding of modern control methods including robust, optimal, hybrid, and distributed control.

  • Ability to work with both discrete and continuous control systems.

  • Ability to assess stability of complex systems with real-world assumptions (lossy, latent networks, etc.)

  • C/C++ software development experience.

  • Software systems engineering.

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.

  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.

  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering with a focus on control systems theory and development.

  • Experience with autonomous systems

  • Experience with supervisory control systems

  • Experience in embedded software development for safety-critical software.

  • Experience in avionics and flight software development for human-rated space vehicle, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle.

  • Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space flight projects.
