Job Description

IBM's Systems & Technology Group (STG) develops and implements a full range of technologies that power many of the world's information systems such as the IBM Watson, semiconductors, storage devices, networking components, and other servers.

The Power Systems Firmware Development organization within IBM Systems Group is looking for an experienced Software Designer. The Power Firmware Development team produces firmware that runs on systems spanning enterprise-level servers down to low-end servers.

This firmware is integral to the Open Power Foundation and is used as a building block by the OpenPOWER foundation partners. We develop the infrastructure for cloud, big data, and analytics by developing leading-edge technologies in hardware enablement, kernel development, and high performance computing for IBM Power systems.

Firmware also initializes hardware, manages system platforms, and provides Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) and manufacturing hardware test functionality.

Software developers within the Power Systems Enablement organization will work in the following areas: firmware design, development, test, and customer support. Candidates should have team-based software development experience and demonstrated knowledge of C++, C, Linux, scripting languages, and testing techniques.

Successful candidates should be self-starters, demonstrated communicators, and able to work well with a group of peers.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Programming Languages: C / C ++ (4+ years)

  • Software Architecture (3+ years)

  • Software development

  • Embedded software design (3+ years)

  • Experience with Open Source development

  • Experience with Open Source tools: Git, Gerrit, Jenkins Continuous Test, Continuous Integration, Test driven development

  • Eagerness to solve complex software problems and learn / own domain areas.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Computer Architecture knowledge
