The Gulf Coast Division Office is looking for a Position – Registered Nurse (RN) Informatics (IT) CPOE
Registered nurse who demonstrates critical thinking skills within the purpose and scope of services. Assumes responsibility and accountability for proactive, efficient personal work flow. Takes personal responsibility to communicate with the team to ensure resources and work processes are operating smoothly and efficiently. The COE nurse will electronically review physician orders for technical accuracy in the Patient Keeper platform. Patient Keeper is HCA’s physician interface that helps healthcare facilities and professionals maximize time, operate with flexibility, ensure patient safety and access life-saving data all within one platform. The comprehensive data and simplified user experience, within both desktop and mobile settings, help providers deliver superior care when it matters most.
The COE Nurse is a temporary facility resource that is needed during the Patient Keeper CPOE deployment. This role is responsible for completing the transcription check of orders that are entered into Patient Keeper by the provider and transcribed into Meditech by the Pharmacist. This individual is also responsible for the verification and transcription check of orders that are interfaced from Patient Keeper into Meditech through either HL7 interface or scripting.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Transcription check and acknowledgement of orders that are entered into Patient Keeper by the provider and transcribed into Meditech by the Pharmacist
Verification and acknowledgement of orders that are entered into Patient Keeper by the provider and entered into Meditech by either and interface or scripting solution.
Verification of interface or scripting of discharge medication reconciliation
Trouble shoot orders not transferring for verification and correction
Documentation of variances discovered
Self-reporting any errors discovered or user made by mistake
Excellent customer service skills and phone etiquette
Communication and escalation of issues or challenges
Ability to work from a PC for scheduled shift
- Strict compliance with attendance & tardiness HR policy
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to synthesize nursing knowledge with data and information in the nursing practice of verification of accurate and timely physician orders.
The COE RN will use his/her clinical judgement for the purpose of managing, disseminating and enhancing physician order data, information to improve patient safety and quality.
The COE RN will use his/her knowledge and clinical experience to improve collaboration and decision making regarding physician orders integrating the physician, other providers, nurses and other stakeholders as appropriate into the discussion as necessary to produce a high quality, perfectly written physician order.
The COE RN will manage incoming data, information and prioritize actions to be completed first and subsequently to achieve the desired outcome within the time-centered goal
The COE RN will apply sound ethical practice using personal knowledge acquired through clinical practice, education to maintain, enhance, edit, and confirm physician orders to advance the nursing profession through the COE project
Clinical, interpersonal, detail-oriented, customer-focused
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with ability to maintain confidential information is required
Mature understanding of Meditech
Ability to work independently
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clinical and information technology personnel verbally and in writing

The COE RN will not hesitate to seek guidance or direction if any questions should arise regarding a patient order, the COE RN will not proceed with order confirmation if there is any doubt or question regarding the order
All HIPPA guidelines will be strictly followed
o Existing knowledge of the facility’s clinical/operational processes, challenges and Meditech environment preferred
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
o Customer service orientation and/or training
Resume reflects at least 3 years of clinical experience as a bedside nurse Education/Experience Nurse degree required, Bachelor's degree required
