Job Description:

The Senior Scientist’s role requires good PCMO formulation and Automotive engineering (Combustion, Lubrication, Racing) application technology understanding, an ability to translate commercial and marketing requirements into technology deliverables, an ability to work effectively across functional and team geographic boundaries (i.e. Legal and statisticians), strong internal and external relationship skills and good commercial acumen. Specific challenges will include:

  • Ability to build relationships across a wide range of internal stakeholders including sales, marketing and technical staff, triangle team members (marketing and product management), project leaders, automotive product application specialists.


  • Ability to translate product features into strong differentiated benefits and claims and to communicate these meaningfully to various audiences with a wide range of technical understanding and interest.

  • The successful candidate will represent Shell externally in consumer, customer and media events, requiring proven communication and customer relationship skills, and bringing a strong sense of technical credibility both to aviation experts and informed consumers.

  • Formulations and testing of lubrication skills, aviation engineering skills aviation gasoline and jet applications

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor's degree/ MS/ PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is a must

  • 7+ years of lubricating oil formulations experience is required

  • Good knowledge of aerospace engineering demonstrated either through education or in-job experience is preferred

  • Knowledge of aviation lubricants applications and related industry specifications.

  • Knowledge of key building blocks of aviation lubricant formulations.

  • Strong commercial/business acumen.

  • Strong team-working, inter-personal & networking skills demonstrated in a distributed environment, operating to demanding technical targets and deadlines.

  • Proven record of delivery, with evidence of drive and creativity coupled with a structured and disciplined approach to project management.

  • Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.
