What’s the role?
Systems Engineering is end-to-end responsible for the operations of the landscapes and the delivery of the day-to-day E2E application services according to the agreed Service Levels and/or Operate Level Agreements. They are the day-to-day service integrator (end-to-end) to ensure applications landscapes remain compliant.
The Systems Engineer drives Incident/Problem resolution by assisting in key operational activities in terms of delivery, fixes, and supportability with operations staff and/suppliers. They ensure regulatory and compliance controls are embedded in landscape operations and assist with evidence collection.
The Systems Engineer assists with supportability and transition activities of enhancements and project solutions. This includes analyzing and understanding business functional and non-functional requirements for supportability impact, as well as assessing implications of landscape changes and reviewing for enhancement and continuous improvement opportunities. They also build knowledge of relevant information risks and regulatory requirements.
Where you fit it?
The Projects & Technology Service and Operations Management PetroSigns team makes sure that application landscapes remain stable, reliable, updated and perform as required by the Reservoir Engineering user community globally. They do this by ensuring ITIL processes are embedded throughout and by delivering high quality process and technical solutions where required.
In addition, the services team will regularly provide 2nd level technical support as well as taking a technical lead role in upgrade, deploy and improvement projects globally when related to PetroSigns, Eclipse, Petrel and other applications.
To achieve this, the team actively embrace and drive collaborative activities, champion and implement emerging methodologies and ways of working (DevOps, Continuous Delivery), actively seek improvement opportunities in terms of process and technology and ensure that the core scope of the team is delivered in a clinical and highly efficient manner to create a solid foundation upon which the team operates.
Team activities include daily operational and technical landscape support including:
Incident, problem and situation management
Performance analysis and remediation
End-to-end monitoring of the application landscapes
Deployment of applications using the continuous delivery approach
Technical Project Lead activities for a variety of fast-moving projects
Process Improvement and implementation.
In addition, the team actively and visibly seek out opportunities to improve and refine how we operate, work and ultimately deliver value to our end users.
The PetroSigns portfolio is highly technical. It covers all Reservoir Modelling software and Hydrocarbon Volumetric Management systems used in Shell. The service has a global user base with different levels of technical complexities including Database Management Systems (SQL Server), Virtual Workstations (VWS), Windows servers and Technical Storage. Managing services under these conditions require specialized tools, skills and knowledge.
This portfolio offers highly technical opportunities working with a mix of vendor and Shell proprietary technologies supported by dedicated teams with staff in The Netherlands, US and India providing back-end operational support, service improvements and technical project lead related activities.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor's Degree in an IT related discipline preferred.
Minimum five (5+) years of experience of corporate IT experience.
Proven IT Infrastructure skills covering Windows Server and/or Linux administration. Additionally: SQL Server database administration and fine tuning, experience with middleware administration and configuration (Web applications on IIS, Tomcat, Active Directory, Kerberos KDC, DNS) and experience with Python scripting (optional PowerShell).
Strong collaboration and engagement skills using both spoken and written English. Customer focused with pro-active attitude. Able to work with various specialized multinational support teams and suppliers to bring complex requests or problems to timely resolution. Requires strong willingness to learn, improve and share knowledge.
In-depth analytical and troubleshooting skills on a variety of platforms with the ability to clearly identify various components of the services and reported issues.
