We are currently looking for an experienced, motivated, creative and entrepreneurial individual to fill a Manager of Unconventional Technology position on our Subsurface Engineering Technical Support team in Houston. Responsibilities Include: The primary functions of the Unconventional Technology Improvement group are: Further analyze the ground-work from Outside Operated Assets (OOA) and Business Development (BD) groups along with competitor information to determine the main drivers of differences in the performance of hydraulically fractured horizontal wells in unconventional resources. The group targets a selected sub-set of wells in an area and then performs a “deep dive” into the mechanics / methods and reservoir characteristics of the wells. Their work products are an improved of understanding and actionable items from the explanations / factors behind “play leading” performance. The group is also responsible for staying abreast of emerging technologies that have the potential to further enhance unconventional well performance. Based on discussions and learnings, an evergreen idea list is prioritized and narrowed to a manageable sub-set for further investigation. The team also supports company-wide technology transfer, implementing new technologies within OXY Business Units, and evaluating new technology impacts by integrating diagnostics into fracture and reservoir models.
Qualifications • 12 years of experience with a firm understanding of reservoir and production engineering. • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Reservoir Engineering or related discipline • Must be able to “dig into” the details and understand what is relevant versus “sales promotions”. • Must be able to look beyond preconceived thinking and let the data and fundamental analysis govern. • Must have exceptional integration skills and be capable of solving problems. • Outstanding communication with multiple technical disciplines is critical. • The manager and team must stay abreast of emerging technologies through involvement conferences, papers, upstream and service company information, along with other avenues. Selection of a narrowed number of leads and then follow-up that can give Oxy a competitive advantage is the end product. • The Unconventional Technology Improvement manager must skillfully interface with internal Reservoir Characterization, Technical Support, Completion/Stimulation, and Business Units.
