Participates in room preparation and turnover, and other support activities as delegated by Perioperative RN and healthcare team members.
Acquires, stocks, and delivers supplies, laundry, and equipment in a timely and efficient manner. Uses supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective manner.
Prepares and ensures availability of stretchers and beds outside each OR.
Transports cultures/specimens to appropriate department.
Answers telephones and communicates professionally and effectively.
Performs related duties required to facilitate proper and efficient use of OR.
Transports and monitors patient for changes in condition and reports any changes to RN.
Operates transport equipment using safe techniques.
Confirms patient’s identity according to hospital policy.
Assists team with safe transfer of patients to/from patient units and within all areas of surgical services.
Announces patient’s arrival to RN and reports events during transport.
Maintains traffic patterns and unobstructed corridors according to policy.
Maintains cleanliness and proper functioning of transport equipment and reports mal-functioning equipment according to policy.
Uses and troubleshoots department equipment.
Ensures equipment is clean and functioning prior to use.
Communicates with RN regarding missing or malfunctioning equipment.
Initiates appropriate procedures for repair of equipment.
Monitors each case to ensure infection control measures are met.
Maintains “surgical conscience” and initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur; communicates the same.
Adheres to safety and infection control policies; demonstrates knowledge and skills in waste disposal and standard precautions.
Maintains and monitors environmental controls.
Verifies operative site.
Holds extremity in proper anatomical position during prep.
Performs surgical shave and prep, as directed by the RN.

Uses appropriate body mechanics and collaborates with team members when transferring and positioning patients to ensure no injuries to patient and staff.
Uses proper body mechanics when lifting or moving patients.
Ensures positioning devices are readily available and clean.
Assists in positioning patient using basic understanding of surgical intervention and anatomy.
Covers for Anesthesia Equipment Technician and assists Anesthesia as needed
Performs related duties, as required.

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Minimum of one (1) year related hospital experience, required. Operating Room experience, preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively.
