Your Role and Responsibilities
CICS runs mission-critical applications for some of the biggest and most demanding enterprise businesses in the world today. While CICS has been around for 50 years, it is constantly keeping up to date with the latest technology trends, for example, adding functionality for Node.js applications and making the mainframe (IBM Z platform) a first-class player in the API economy.
The CICS team is based at IBM Hursley Park which is one of IBM's longest standing and largest software development labs in Europe. Located in the Hampshire Countryside, in private parklands only 10 minutes from Winchester, Hursley boasts a strong team of technologists working on a vast range of products and projects from across the IBM portfolio. Locally, there are excellent schools and transport links including, Southampton and Portsmouth ports and Southampton Airport.
CICS is a great product to work on. The CICS team is a leader on the IBM Z platform for design-driven development, continuous integration and DevOps using a Jenkins-based automated delivery pipeline for code development, testing and service.
We have a vacancy for a software engineer to become a CICS Transaction Server for z/OS product specialist. This is an opportunity to join a team that strives to ensure that all updates, that are released to our customers, are highly valued and of the highest quality. The successful candidate will join an agile development team that has a world class Design Partnership Program. This program enables the team to work closely with dozens of CICS clients through-out the planning, designing and implementation of new function for CICS.

This role is suitable for all working patterns, whether this be part-time or full-time. Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Programming skills – for example Java, C or C+• Software testing, problem solving and diagnostic skills
• Good communication skills, both verbally and digitally
• An eagerness to learn and exploit new technologies and share knowledge
• Experience of, or an interest in, contributing to open source software development
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• CICS TS and/or z/OS skills
