As a Systems Engineer working in the Oracle Systems Reliability Engineering Team, you will be part of a specialist group considered the glue linking enterprise focused product requirements with enterprise caliber operational delivery expectations. You will develop (design, engineer, tweak and champion) core technologies and services that underpin overall Oracle Cloud delivery model of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services and ensure that they are ready not just for tomorrow but are consistently exceeding expectations in reliability and performance.

As a Systems Engineer working in the Oracle Systems Reliability Engineering Team, you will be part of a specialist group considered the glue linking enterprise focused product requirements with enterprise caliber operational delivery expectations. You will develop (design, engineer, tweak and champion) core technologies and services that underpin overall Oracle Cloud delivery model of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services and ensure that they are ready not just for tomorrow but are consistently exceeding expectations in reliability and performance.

As an expert in service reliability and hyper scale, you will also be engaged in resolving some of the most complex, cross service challenges faced by Oracle. In this consultative role, you will face broad variety of complex and novel conditions and function as the expert guide to drive resolution across Oracle’s Engineering and Operations communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute in all aspects of Oracle IaaS Service planning and delivery to ensure attainment of Mission Critical Enterprise IT standards of availability, performance, latency and scale

  • Engineer scale and reliability into core technologies and services powering Oracle Services to consistently exceed availability, performance, latency scalability and service efficiency targets

  • Engage with other Engineering and Operations teams to review and refine architecture, standards and processes raising the bar for service delivery at scale

  • Contribute to Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Engineered Systems product tuning and adaptations for mission critical delivery

  • Define, collect, analyze and review service reliability and scale KPIs with leadership team

  • Seek out new capabilities to bolster our portfolio of core services to lessen the demand on both Engineering and Operations teams

  • Present in front of senior executive management as part of routine service and capability reviews

  • Participate in a global on-call rotation

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience

  • 3 years of relevant work experience with Linux environments

  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, Perl, Shell

The ideal candidate will also have the following:

  • 5 years of relevant work experience with large scale, mission critical Linux production environments

  • Strong knowledge of Linux kernel, Linux OS services, virtualization, configuration management and network principles

  • Strong knowledge of internet protocols and experience in troubleshooting

  • Strong knowledge of network services, network devices and network stack

  • Prior service development experience with scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, Perl, Shell

  • Proven prior experience in designing, implementing and supporting high performance, large scale web services or applications

  • Strong written and verbal communication in English and analytical skills

  • General understanding of agile product development

  • Familiarity with security practices in web application delivery

  • Ability to accurately estimate efforts and deliver on time

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. BS or equivalent experience in programming on enterprise or department servers or systems.
