Position Summary

Responsible to manage the accounting and freight payment activities related to the logistics department. Oversee and ensure accounting processes are completed in an accurate and timely manner to include accounting entries, account receivables transactions, payment of carrier freight and vendor invoices, etc. Ensure all accounting activities are in accordance with department processes and accounting principles (i.e. GAAP).

Minimum Requirements

Degrees

Bachelor's Degree (Required) Finance

Accounting, Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Job Experience

Eight years experience in accounting, preferably with logistics, freight payments or related area.

Supervisory Experience

TWO (2) YEARS

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

Manage the Logistics Accounting functions and consolidated period/quarter close process; work with various departments ensuring related entries and financial reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with GAAP and applicable company policies. Ensure quality performance in accounting processes along with proper customer response and satisfaction. Ensure accurate and timely completion of accounting entries and expense reconciliation within the department.

Oversee department responsible for processing carrier freight, vendor and external sales invoice payments including third party transactions. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger and financial statements and maintain accurate and detailed accounts receivable transactions.

Manage and prepare financial forecasts, accounting reconciliations, P&L analysis, variance reports, revenue and cost accounting reports and analysis to provide fact based insights and participate in/support department decision making.

Lead the onboarding process of new carriers; train and guide carrier on compliance requirement with the department transportation management system (TMS).

Work with accounting department and other logistics/transportation areas to verify data of accounting transactions and to address any accounting issues that may arise.

Participate in Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) external audits and internal control testing, implementation of internal audit recommendations for Logistics Accounting, and maintain department SOX documentation. Support a strong internal control environment by working with auditors on a regular basis related to audits or quarter end sign-offs.

Maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting; implement new and/or updated policies and procedures as necessary. Responsible to train associates in processes, use of tools, reports, etc. to ensure accounting processes are completed appropriately.

Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals. Develop and monitor department budget as required.

Maintain current knowledge of legal regulations, industry trends and best Accounting practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure company legal compliance.

Knowledge, Skills Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking and time management skills. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including SOX compliance, SEC regulations and GAAP. Familiar with transportation operations strongly preferred. Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel). Ability to travel up to 10%, as necessary.
