Current Need

McKesson’s well-regarded Law Department is seeking an experienced healthcare transactional lawyer with regulatory experience to serve as the lead attorney overseeing all aspects of McKesson US Pharmaceutical’s (US Pharma) manufacturer customer segment, which includes all domestic sourcing and drug distribution contracting with brand, generic and specialty manufacturers, as well as oversight of US Pharma’s private label and repackaging businesses.

US Pharma supplies pharmaceuticals and other healthcare-related services and technology products to a wide range of retail and institutional pharmacy customers. US Pharma’s nation-wide network of distribution centers supplies medication to 1/3 of all health care providers in the United States, and we frequently invest in technology and other systems to enhance the safety and reliability of our core distribution services and technology offerings. US Pharma’s relationship with its suppliers is a key component to the success of its business.

Position Description

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversees routine day-to-day legal support forthe manufacturer customer segment, including senior legal support for contract drafting,negotiation and strategy for our largest and most strategic manufacturerspartners;

  • Provides senior business unit oversight for thesourcing side of our full line pharmaceutical drug distribution business, aswell as subsidiaries that provide specialty distribution, private labelofferings, repackaging and data analytics services to providers andmanufacturers;

  • Manages a team of legal professionals thatprovide cross-functional support services for the above areas;

  • Serves as the key legal advisor to US Pharmasenior leadership on a wide array of topics relating to the manufacturersegment needs, including legal risk mitigation, manufacturer relationshipmanagement, and strategic initiatives and compliance programs; and

  • Frequent interactions with other internallegal and business stakeholders across functional groups.

Reports to: Assistant General Counsel, US Pharmaceutical and Specialty Health

Manages: 3 senior lawyers, 3 paralegals

Key Client: SVP, Sourcing Services

Minimum Requirements

13 years of corporate law experience

Large law firm experience combined with in-house experience, preferred

Critical Skills

  • Excellent commercial contract drafting andnegotiation skills

  • High comfort providing health care regulatoryadvice (anti-kickback law, FCA, government price reporting, 340B, governmentcontracting, antitrust) and experience in the manufacturer space (marketaccess, supply chain channel strategy, private labeling)

  • Proven management experience, and a strongdesire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals

  • Outstanding verbal and written communicationskills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with anability to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company,including senior business executives

  • Ability to work closely with, facilitateinteractions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (includingrepresentatives from other areas of the law department, regulatory andcompliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers).

  • Notable business acumen dealing with riskmanagement and organizational savvy

  • Must be a team player who can develop strongworking relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and othermembers of the legal senior team.Ability to lead by example including a willingness to “roll up yoursleeves” and undertake day-to-day legal work.

Education

Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials. Member of a jurisdiction is required.
