Primary purpose of the Sr. Financial Analyst role is to support the Planning data systems (PowerBI, MS SQL Server, & IBM Cognos TM1), to prepare data, tools, & analytics in support of the organizations key strategic initiatives.
Help build and improve upon analytics tools using PowerBI, SQL Server, & IBM Cognos TM1
Development, management and maintenance of Financial Planning Tools to assist company in forecasting and budgeting
Maintain as well as create information, reports, models, etc in our financial planning systems (IBM Cognos TM1).
Ability to learn company’s in-house financial systems and become departmental and company expert, training others in the tools
Analysis of various areas of the company including senior management requests for information and analysis. Examples of special projects include creating a reporting system to track unprofitable stores, performing analysis on the impact of potential divestitures, analyzing profitability of new store strategies under consideration (such as comparing urban vs. non-urban store performance), with goal of recommending cost saving measures, revenue enhancements or improved functionality to the process reviewed.
Preparation of various ad hoc analyses or models to evaluate economic implications of new programs and initiatives and recommending actions.
Regular interaction with Planning Department management to communicate and gain approval of assumptions, and to facilitate completion of Retail and Functional Budgets and Mid-Year Plans.
Knowledge of the business and senior management’s current concerns and strategies are necessary to determine what present and how to present it to facilitate decisions, and to identify risks and opportunities to forecasts that will assist making effective decisions. Examples include comparative review of forecasted and actual results, profitability of stores, analysis of margin, sales/GP, G&A expenses, etc.
Education: Bachelors/4 Year Degree (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 2 – 4 Years
Knowledge of financial modeling and reporting normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in business or finance.
Technical languages a plus (e.g. DAX, SQL, VBA, etc.)
Ability to quickly learn and support new technologies
Ability to mine data to create impactful management reports
Ability to draft correspondence that accompanies requests for information in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to communicate verbally with senior members of staff
Understanding of mathematical and accounting concepts necessary to make growth projections, net present value calculations, etc.
