Summary:

The Ground Support Equipment Worker repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE) following guidance and direction of a higher-grade Mechanic, assist in troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using test equipment, hand tools shop equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare GSE for storage and transportation.

  • Use automated maintenance data systems to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions.

  • Maintain external fuel and grounding systems.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.

  • Service equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.

  • Disassemble and assemble malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.

  • Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.

  • Store, handle, label, use, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.

  • Operate, clean, inspect, and service GSE towing vehicles.

  • Maintain vehicle records, maintain and update paper and electronic equipment records.

  • Provide dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.

  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times.

  • Assist in troubleshoot, inspect, service, test and repair using test equipment diagnostics equipment.

  • Remove, adjust, repair, replace/reinstall and rebuild functional components to include mobile air conditioners.

  • Use of test equipment and benches for troubleshooting to repair, adjust and rework commercial equipment.

  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework or overhaul using military and commercial technical data.

  • Service, inspect, and test aviation support equipment used for direct and indirect aircraft support.

  • Perform proper handling and disposal of chemicals and petroleum products required during maintenance.

  • Assist in requisitioning repair parts, materials supply through commercial and military supply system.

  • Read and interpret reference material such as commercial maintenance manuals and technical drawings and wiring/hydraulic schematics.

  • Recommend most economical means of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

  • Perform general housekeeping, workstation, shop and facility, providing a clean FOD free environment.

  • Perform shift work and/or overtime as required.

  • Perform other associated maintenance, support and facility upkeep tasks as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • 4 years recent Naval Aviation Support Equipment experience or equivalent.

  • Experience in gasoline, diesel or gas turbine engine troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.

  • Experience in automatic transmission, hydrostatic and final drive system repair.

  • Experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems repair.

  • Experience Tire/Wheel maintenance procedures, multiple type buildup, storage and disposal.

  • Strong Electrical skills and experience in A/C and D/C system troubleshooting and Repair/Rework.

  • Must possess valid state driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess basic hand tools and toolbox knowledge

  • Must be familiar with US Navy Positive Tool Control Program.

  • Formal USN Aviation Ground Support Equipment training/experience, ASE Certifications or equivalent preferred

  • CFC/HVAC Universal Certification for Servicing, Troubleshooting and Repair or equivalent preferred

  • Familiarity with Hazardous Material Handling and general shop safety procedures.

  • Familiarity with and ability to use Military, Commercial manuals and technical drawings.

  • Must be able to successfully complete the necessary employment screening.

  • Familiar with 4790.2 (series) NAMP Program processes, procedures and documentation requirements.

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered during normal work place operations.

  • The employee will normally work in a non-airconditioned shop area using lifts, power tools, hand tools and test equipment.

  • The employee will routinely be required to wear various types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • During normal work place operations, the employee may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, airborne particulates, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
