About the Opportunity

This is an open position with... a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a liaison between leaders and employees, managing and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Working closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Coordinating investigations into employee concerns regarding policy application, harassment, ethics, and general concerns, gathering all pertinent information, preparing documentation and maintaining frequent communications to applicable parties throughout the process.
  • Providing day to day performance management guidance to leaders (coaching, counseling, career development, corrective action).
  • Supporting performance management program deliverables and reinforces the My Career Map career management process.
  • Assisting leaders with developing appropriate performance improvement plans.
  • Understanding and conveying FE’s compensation philosophy and provides guidance. Conducting pay equity reviews and coordinates employee promotions and off-cycle pay increases.
  • Conducting PIRC calibration sessions (with HR Business Partner) and supporting the annual pay for performance process.
  • Coordinating job reviews.
  • Developing / delivering targeted training, as needed.
  • Assisting with benefit and health and absence management inquiries.
  • Assisting with new hire orientation and administering employee testing.
  • Conducting issue-free environment assessments and exit meetings and identifying / addressing areas of concern. Consulting with management to determine possible actions to be taken.
  • Taking initiative to identify and anticipating operational management’s HR needs; makes recommendations for implementation.
  • Assisting with special projects as assigned.

An employee hired at the HR Rep IV level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the HR Rep IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above.

Qualifications at the HR Rep III level include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline and minimum 4 years relevant work experience is required.
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree (preferred), minimum 7 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience will include intermediate knowledge of human resource disciplines including compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, organizational development, performance management, federal and state employment laws.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated communications skills – oral and written with ability to deliver presentations to groups
  • Critical thinking / problem solving skills
  • Able to maintain the confidentiality of personal information, data, documents and discussions
  • Able to provide results working as part of a team and as an individual
  • Able to work extended hours or flexible hours, as needed, based on business need is required
  • Travel to site locations, as needed (less than 5%) is required

Qualifications at the HR Rep IV level include all of the above plus:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline and minimum 7 years relevant work experience is required.
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree (preferred), minimum 10 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience will include in-depth knowledge of human resource disciplines including compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, organizational development, performance management, federal and state employment laws.
