Description

Job Description:

The Electronic Warfare Division has an opening for an experienced Aerospace Engineer. Leidos is looking for experienced engineers with an Aerospace background to lead Modeling and Simulation (M&S) efforts in the King of Prussia, PA or the Eglin AFB, FL office.

This is a senior engineering position to perform complex Fluid Thermal Structural Interaction (FTSI) analysis of high speed weapons systems and to lead and develop less experienced aerospace engineers. Candidates should have prior experience in performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) on supersonic and/or hypersonic platforms and have recent experience in the CFD tools presently being used in the field. Candidates should also have experience in coupling CFD to structural analysis (FEA) and/or thermal analysis (with a preference towards integrating all three types of analysis). Preferred candidates will have prior experience using coupled tools or in coupling these types analyses.

The Aerophysics group operates in a team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm. Our engineers typically work directly with DOD personnel and regularly interact with leaders in the development of hypersonic weapons. Be a part of generating the designs for the next generation of hypersonic weapon systems in this high growth field.

Successful candidates will perform high fidelity FTSI analysis to solve complex challenges associated with hypersonic and high speed weapons systems. This may include high Mach number CFD and heat transfer, high angle of attack aerodynamics, jet interactions, cavity flows, separation events, etc. Candidates who have demonstrated experience in these areas will be preferred. Lower fidelity (Euler) CFD tools may be used to support preliminary designs and to perform detailed trajectory analysis. Candidates who have experience in batch running large numbers of jobs on HPCs will be preferred.

Experience Level: Candidates should have 10+ years’ experience in addition to an Aerospace Engineering degree (or similar) or a PhD and 5+ years’ experience. Candidates would be expected to both conduct advanced M&S analysis on complex structures in complex flow fields and to lead a team of 1-2 junior engineers. Candidates will also be expected to generate new ideas to solve complex issues surrounding hypersonic weapon development.

Communication Skills: Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate results and issues with Leidos aerodynamics and structural engineers, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.

Engineering Skills: Experience with the following disciplines is required:

  • CFD tools and analysis

    • Computational fluid dynamics for supersonic / hypersonic flows (CART3D or KESTREL preferred)

    • Numerical gridding (Pointwise or similar)

    • Post processing CFD data

  • FEA tools and analysis (Sierra tool suite preferred or Ansys, NASTRAN)

  • Thermal analysis tools

  • Scripting to enable numerical codes to communicate and to run in a batch fashion (Python and C++)

  • Operating on supercomputing clusters

  • Prior experience in system analysis and trade space analysis

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • CART3D, KESTREL, US3D, FUN3D, CFD++

  • Pointwise, CUBIT, GRIDGEN, Tecplot, ParaView

  • Python Scripting, Object Oriented Programming

  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, NASTRAN, Sierra)

  • Experience with Artificial Neural Nets (TensorFlow, MATLAB tools)

  • Solidworks or similar CAD experience

  • Experience with MATLAB

  • Analysis of experimental and flight test data

TRAVEL: Attend technical reviews and professional conferences, estimated < 5%.
