Description

Job Description:

Leidos is looking for Aerospace Engineers to support the design and evaluation of high speed weapons systems through numerical analysis and the development of numerical tools.

Be part of a close knit team and be mentored by world class experts. The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm. Located at Eglin AFB, FL, have direct access to DOD personnel and work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world in the high-profile area of hypersonic weapons systems. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach and surrounding area is home to world-famous beaches and the ‘salt life’ Emerald Cost lifestyle.

Apply and develop multi-fidelity computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics and heat transfer models for the analysis of high speed weapons systems. Combine multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge of aerodynamics, heat transfer, structures, and material science with computer programming ability to couple analysis tools. Develop software tools that push the envelope of today’s modeling and simulation capabilities.

Exercise the developed tools on offensive and defensive platforms. Perform trade space analysis, evaluating system and mission performance, and use the knowledge gained to guide the design cycle of new weapons systems to maturity. Conduct wind tunnel and flight tests to validate tools and analysis. This well-supported research environment provides the unique and fulfilling experience of developing innovative ideas from concept, through digital engineering, and onto physical test and evaluation.

Required Experience Level: Bachelors in Engineering in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar and 8+ years experience in industry. Candidates should be able to make programmatic decisions and perform technical tasks with minimal supervision.

Communication Skills: Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos aerodynamics and structural engineers, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.

Engineering Skills: Experience with the following disciplines are required:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools and analysis, ideally experience with hypersonic flows
Proficient in at least one scripting language, ideally also at least one compiled language
Numerical meshing
Post processing CFD data
Operating on supercomputing clusters via the Linux terminal
Some Finite Element Analysis (FEA) exposure
Some Machine Learning (ML) exposure
Prior experience in system and/or trade space analysis

Education: Engineering Degree plus 8+ years’ experience in industry

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.

Desired Knowledge:
MS in a relevant field
Computer Languages: Python or MATLAB/SIMULINK, C++ or FORTRAN
CFD Software: Cart3D, Kestrel, US3D, FUN3D, OpenFOAM
FEA Software: Sierra Tool Suite, LS-DYNA, Nastran, Abaqus, etc.
Numerical Meshing: Pointwise, TrueGrid, CREATE Capstone, CUBIT, etc.
ML: TensorFlow, PyTorch, ScikitLearn, MATLAB AI toolbox, etc.
CAD: Solidworks or similar
Wind tunnel, flight, or other experimental test planning and safety review experience
