Description

Job Description:

Leidos is looking for engineers with an Aerospace background to support our growing work in the Eglin office. This is a technical engineering position to develop models, perform numerical analysis, develop numerical tools, and support the design of high speed weapons systems. Work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world in the high profile area of hypersonic weapons systems.

Be part of a close knit team and be mentored by world class experts. The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm. Our engineers typically work directly with DOD personnel and regularly interact with contracting teams from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, etc. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.

Apply and develop multi-fidelity computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics and heat transfer models for the analysis of high speed weapons systems. Combine multi-disciplinary knowledge of aerodynamics, heat transfer, structures, and material science with programming ability to couple analysis tools. Develop software tools that enable advanced modeling and simulation capabilities. Examine how these weapons systems will be utilized for both offense and defense by conducting trade studies and mission analysis.

Perform trade space analysis and preliminary design on advanced weapons systems. Use your engineering knowledge to improve the design of these new weapons systems as they are being matured.

Required Experience Level: Bachelors in Engineering in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar and 4+ years’ experience in industry. These candidates would be expected to be able to perform CFD, FEA, system analysis, etc. with minimal supervision. These candidates should also be able to grasp the big picture and make decisions about how to proceed with analysis with minimal supervision.

Communication Skills: Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos aerodynamics and structural engineers, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.

Engineering Skills: Experience with one of the following disciplines is required:

CFD tools and analysis

Scripting to enable numerical codes to communicate and to run in a batch fashion (Python and C++)

Computational fluid dynamics for supersonic / hypersonic flows (CART3D or KESTREL preferred)

Numerical gridding (Pointwise or similar)

Post processing CFD data

Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Sierra Tools)

Operating on supercomputing clusters

Prior experience in system analysis and trade space analysis

Flight test planning of weapons systems

Education: Engineering Degree plus 4+ years’ experience in industry

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.
