Description

Job Description:

Leidos is looking for early to mid-career level engineers with Aerospace Conceptual Design experience to support our growing work in the Eglin office. This is a technical engineering position to develop and mature designs of high speed weapons systems and work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world in the high profile area of hypersonic weapons systems.

Successful applicants will have prior experience applying multidisciplinary aerospace engineering knowledge and skills to realize conceptual designs of high-speed weapons systems. Experience across the fields of computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, propulsion, and heat transfer analysis and their application to complex designs will be necessary to perform at the highest level.

The Leidos team has subject matter experts in each of these domains, and we are looking for a multidisciplinary design engineer that can synthesize results into complex designs. Use your system engineering knowledge in the conceptual design of emerging weapons systems. As part of this role, you will examine how these weapons systems will be utilized for both offense and defense by conducting trade studies and mission analysis. Leidos is looking for candidates who have successfully conducted performance/mission analysis and trade space analysis to generate and screen large numbers of conceptual designs and who have also taken conceptual designs to preliminary designs.

Be part of a close knit team and be mentored by world class experts. The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded, and continuous learning is the norm. Our engineers typically work directly with DOD personnel and regularly interact with contracting teams from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, etc. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.

Required Experience:

Must have a Bachelors of Engineering in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar and 4+ years of relate experience. MS or PhD in a relevant field preferred. Candidates would be expected to be able to perform conceptual design with minimal supervision and should also be able to grasp the big picture and make decisions about how to proceed with analysis with minimal supervision. May have the opportunity to lead a team of 2-3 junior engineers in the conduct of a conceptual design campaign. Different levels of experience will be considered.

Communication Skills: Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos aerodynamics and structural engineers, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.

Engineering Skills:

Experience with the following disciplines is required:

  • Multidisciplinary Design

    • Analysis of Alternatives

    • Paretto Analysis

    • Visualization of performance of many different designs

  • Conceptual Design Review and/or Preliminary Design Review

Familiarization with the following tools are required:

    • Computational fluid dynamics for supersonic / hypersonic flows (CART3D or KESTREL preferred)

  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Sierra Tools)

  • 6-DOF flight simulation

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Python Scripting, Object Oriented Programming

  • CART3D, KESTREL, US3D, FUN3D, CFD++

  • ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Sierra Tool suite
