Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

Services, cleans, inspects, and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on C-26 aircraft. Inspect and perform organizational, intermediate and depot level maintenance/ modification on contract units, airframe, avionics, engines, ISR equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related weapons system. Advise and train team members to solve unusual maintenance problems by analysis and test on missiles, airframes, engines, flight control, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical/electronic systems, etc. Works independently or in coordination with other A&P Mechanics and technical representatives to troubleshoot, diagnose and solve unusual and complex maintenance problems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Service, repair ISR/Avionics systems, overhaul aircraft, aircraft engines wheeled and tracked equipment to ensure serviceability
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, alighting gear, power plants/trains, fuel systems (including cells, tanks and fuel/metering control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Inspect and repair power plants (engines) malfunctions, including cracked components, oil leaks, etc.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, isolate causes and correct breaks.
  • Test engine operation, using testing equipment to locate source of malfunction.
  • Replace and repair damaged components, use hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.
  • Remove engine and major components from aircraft, using hoist or other lifting devices.
  • Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
  • Repair and replace defective engine components and reassembles and install engine in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace instruments, avionics and navigations, ADP flight control, electrical/electronic, fuel/oil systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Perform aircraft and vehicle services, including engine flush/cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks.
  • May service engines and airframe components at flight line operations making repairs, short of overhaul, required to ensure aircraft safe operating condition.
  • May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies.
  • Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.
  • Tools are Required; Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed in the toolbox and tools etched with PID.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Requirements

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three (3) experience from a turboprop aircraft or type similar to the military C-26 Fairchild SA227-DC aircraft.
  • Shall provide maintenance support with experience in Avionics/Instrumentation.
  • Capability to troubleshoot mission management systems to include Force X, Aero Computer and ISR related equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to (C-26 preferred) aircraft, missile, or wheeled and tracked vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application to the contract unit is required.
  • Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; theory of flight; rigging of flight controls; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils required.
  • Read, interpret and use manufacturer’s and aircraft maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance or have an Active Secret Security Clearance, obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) to include passing a NACI or NACLC background investigation and be certified by the FAA with a current Airframe and Power plant Mechanic (A&P) Preferred.
  • Tools are Required; Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed in the toolbox and tools etched with PID.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
